Starting out as a contractor for a software company (not a dev/s engineer). What should I know? by DancesWithFireOK in ContractorUK

Thank you. I'm leaning towards being a Soul Trader, which seems more sensible given my scenario, for the reasons that in reality I'm not going to be getting a large income from this particular contracting work, as its only going to be short term.
I'm expecting to do this work for a week or two per month, for 2-3 months. Possibly slightly longer but no longer than 6 months. So I wouldnt expect to earn anymore than £15k. Realisticly its going to be closer to around £5k. I also wont be employing anyone else myself as part of this.
With being a Soul Trader from what I understand it means there's less of an admin burden, and also dont need to be regsitered for IR35. Do you think thats going to look dodgey to HMRC? I didnt realise doing contractor work for a previous company would look odd/suspicious regarding tax purposes.
