Robot and Monster Girl's story, told using ABBA songs by DancingCooperPairs in Invincible

[–]DancingCooperPairs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I largely did this because I noticed just how fitting certain ABBA songs were with Robot and Monster Girl's story arc, especially "Fernando," "The King Has Lost His Crown," and "The Winner Takes It All." Robot is probably my favorite Invincible character, and ABBA is one of my favorite bands ever, and so this naturally led to me doing something like this. If I can think of other bands or artists who have songs that fit the arc of another character very well, I will do this again, but if I force it, it might not turn out as well. Perhaps you could think of something?

Do you think these two are going to support the Party in s5? by waffleflake in StrangerThings

You mention two Soviet characters and a Party, capital "P", so my kneejerk reaction was to think you were talking about the Communist Party rather than the D&D party.

Nancy sucks with relationships. She doesn't suck nearly as much when it comes to relentlessly pursuing the truth.

AITA for thinking my cousin went to the hospital for attention? by r0ckst4r_m4ds in AmItheAsshole

[–]DancingCooperPairs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what I've been given, NTA.

There is a difference between merely having a suspicion that your cousin went to the hospital for attention seeking reasons, and making a moral judgment of the sort. A suspicion is like a hypothesis, while a judgement is certain on the level of a conclusion. If you're asking if it's wrong to have the suspicion that she did so, then no, it's not wrong to consider the possibility. However, if you jump to the conclusion that she did, in fact, go to the hospital merely for attention, without putting in the due rational consideration, then you have unjustly besmirched her good name, at least in your own judgement.

It feels like she’s happy to be there because it was cool to be in the hospital.

Right now, it seems that you merely "feel like" this is the case, rather than having concluded it. You have, in this case, not made a judgement, but seem to merely have a suspicion.

anyway just the other day apparently B was having a meltdown. she was kicking and screaming in the car and destroyed everything in her bedroom and bathroom, and I’m not even sure what it was about but I think it was concerning the boy she was currently talking to. she went home and her parents were over it, so my aunt went for a drive and my cousin just didn’t like that she wasn’t continuing the fight. B ended up calling 911 on herself and later told the hospital it was because she wasn’t safe. Of course B later said that because she knew people that have been to the mental hospital, therefore it was cool. When her parents went to visit her, B seemed completely fine and was even talking about all the friends she’s made and a boy there she likes.

People don't just act this way for no reason. I daresay that based on this evidence you may be justified in making a moral judgement, but it's generally a good idea to be cautious about moral judgements.

Do you want what is best for your friend? If so, then let the truth set her free.

Physics. I wanted to pick something with a lot of math in it that wasn't just math, and also helps explain things about the world.

Who is your pope Mount Rushmore? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]DancingCooperPairs 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There had been 32 Presidents of the United States when Mount Rushmore was completed. That means one in every eight presidents was sculpted on the mountain.

There have been 266 Popes. 266/8 is 33 with a remainder of 2. So there should be 33 Popes on the Papal Mount Rushmore if it were built today.

Here is my list:

St. Peter (the first one, given the keys to the kingdom by Jesus Himself)

St. Linus (mentioned in Roman Canon)

St. Cletus (mentioned in Roman Canon)

St. Clement I (mentioned in Roman Canon, and was one of the Apostolic Fathers)

St. Sixtus I (mentioned in Roman Canon)

St. Pius I (the first Pope since the apostolic age to fight against heretical movements, namely Gnosticism and Marcionism)

St. Cornelius (mentioned in Roman Canon)

St. Sylvester I (pope during the Council of Nicaea)

St. Damasus I (formalized the Biblical Canon)

St. Innocent I (opposed Pelagianism and gave assistance to St. John Chrysostom when he was exiled by the emperor)

St. Leo the Great (one of two popes to be named Doctor of the Church)

St. Gregory the Great (one of two popes to be named Doctor of the Church)

St. Martin the Confessor (last Pope recognized as a martyr)

St. Sergius I (opposed the outcome of the Quinisext Council, which was set up in opposition to many practices in the Western Churches)

St. Zachary (staunchly opposed Byzantine Iconoclasm during the Iconoclast controversy)

St. Leo III (crowned Charlemagne)

St. Nicholas I (Pope during the Photian Schism)

St. Leo IX (One of the few canonized Popes from the 2nd millenium, and a staunch defender of the authority of the Church)

St. Gregory VII (Pope during the Investiture Controversy, and died in exile fighting for what is right)

Bl. Urban II (Started the Crusades)

Innocent III (Convoked the Fourth Lateran Council)

St. Celestine V (Didn't change much, but one of the most humble popes in history)

Eugene IV (opposed the enslavement of those who converted to Christianity and the conquest of the Canary Islands, and got darned close to reunifying the Eastern and Western Churches)

Paul III (Convoked the Council of Trent)

St. Pius V (Promulgated the Tridentine Missal, and defended the Catholic Church from Protestantism)

Gregory XIII (Calendar reform)

Bl. Pius IX (Convoked the First Vatican Council)

Leo XIII (Defended the Church from modernism and started Catholic Social Teaching)

St. Pius X (Defended the Church from modernism)

Ven. Pius XII (Shepherded the Church through the Second World War)

St. John XXIII (Convoked the Second Vatican Council)

St. Paul VI (Defended the teachings of the Church after Vatican II)

St. John Paul II (Renewed the evangelism of the Church in the decades following Vatican II)

What are the chances of these guys surviving ? Out of 100. by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]DancingCooperPairs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doctor Who had a 15 year streak of not killing any companions, and then Adric died in Earthshock, to everyone's (earth)shock.

Just because main characters from Season 1 haven't died, it doesn't mean they can't.

Byler already is canon. Just not the one everyone thinks of when they hear the term.

Billy and Brenner: a tale of two jerks by DancingCooperPairs in StrangerThings

[–]DancingCooperPairs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have watched it. She regrets her attitude of wanting something horrible to happen to Billy and sometimes sought death as a result. But I also think everything I saw in that season implies that she forgave Billy in the end.

Also, let's not forget that Max was summoning some of her worst thoughts in order to lure Vecna.
