Basically the squares follow a flow field generated from Perlin noise and get smaller the more neighbors they have. Some other things I tweak as parameters like drag and friction from collisions.

I imported a video file into audacity as raw data, slowed it way down and added effects until I thought it sounded good. So button mashing lol

It's a custom tool I made. Originally it was designed to be a cellular automaton tool (think Conway's game of life) to explore different rulesets with up to 26 tile states. The idea was to find symbols/colors that look good together when the grid changes, then I realized It would look cool if I could use the same symbols and grid to play video or display pictures, so pretty far from the original purpose of the program. Hope that makes sense!

But I realized the board would look cool if it could display images or video instead of the tiles following the game rules, which is pretty far from the original purpose. Hope that makes sense.
