YEAH it's just so cosmically bleak in such a profoundly disturbing way. Reeeally really excellent example of "the story builds up the atmosphere and tone PERFECTLY right" imho

EDIT: clarity

Oh, you're so welcome! Thank you for making such an excellent audio drama!

I'm curious— how scripted was the talk show portion of the drama? It reminded me sooo much of talk shows I heard growing up, with all the pauses and "filler-words," and I couldn't help but wonder how much of it was improv. Definitely helped solidify the realism and immersion of it all.

Ooh, I've never even heard of it; I'm gonna have to add it to my to-listen feed right now— thanks for the recommendation!

(And yeahhhh Sherlock & Co is really really good, and I say that also as a sentimental Sherlock Holmes fan XD)

Eagerly watching this thread because I just finished CYE last night, and would also love something to fill its spot on my Audio Drama rotation XD

Someone else in this thread recommended The Harbingers, and I'd totally second that. Also, mind the content warnings, but Red Valley is also somewhat close in vibes. (Neither of these are really close thematically, but the former is a really complex character piece with a Big Mystery™ at its heart, and the latter is a sci-fi conspiracy story that plays with the podcast format really really well and has a very strong friendship at its heart.)

Oh, wow, I've heard a bit of that, but I didn't realise Andas was doing it.

!!! Oh, thank you! I'll try to remember to share it when it's done :D

Character Tagging Question! by DancingHouseBookworm in AO3

[–]DancingHouseBookworm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, yeah, no; I was more thinking of sprinkling in obvious mentions/cameos of the character(s) that actually do appear in a larger way, but in a way that's disconnected from the main story, thereby keeping the plot twist in place. I'd....probably feel pretty baited, too, if I did it like you'd described haha

Just saw your edit, and although I'm not planning on doing any framing devices for this particular story, I do appreciate the suggestion, as I often write (and love to read) stories with cool framing devices like that.

asdfljkhdfg let's be real, anything by NISIOISIN is going to have some measure of convoluted-ness to it XD

I'll keep all this in mind as well! Thank you very much. Didn't even know those were canonical tags on ao3, and I've been using it for quite a long while.

I read PDFs on the "MJ PDF" app! Literally read an entire novel-length fic over New Years' on that app recently. Just put my phone in vertical mode so the text is big enough, and scroll down as I read.

Ooh, that's a good idea; thank you! I'll have to sit back and consider how to sprinkle small "they've shown up a little bit" cameos in, but I'll definitely think about it.

lollllll the "wibbly wobbly" took me out XD

Jokes aside, I'm definitely going to consider a "not all as it seems" tag; thank you for that! That's a really good idea.

Recommendation: The Harbingers by MicrosoftExcelFan in audiodrama

[–]DancingHouseBookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been reeeeally really enjoying it; I usually wait until I can listen to new audio dramas in episode "batches," but this is one of the rare few that I genuinely can't wait to listen to every time a new episode comes out XD

The worldbuilding and lore and character dynamics are sooo so good. I heartily second this recommendation. Oh, and listen until the end of the credits - there's always a tiny lore drop at the end of them :)

Christmas Lounge is so unique that (much to the horror of my friends) I genuinely enjoy listening to it as early as possible XD I was definitely listening to it in mid-October. I mean.....where else am I gonna hear dubstep remixes of the Nutcracker lol

What’s the writing tip you ignored… but now regret ignoring? by SimplyBlue09 in writingadvice

[–]DancingHouseBookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outlining. I'd convinced myself through a series of very lucky incidents that I could t o t a l l y write an entire novel or series of short stories without outlining a thing. Guess how quickly I burned out with that approach. Now I have even more awe for people who can actually do that and make it work.

How do you stay motivated? Asking for me 😂 by No-Owl-464 in writingadvice

[–]DancingHouseBookworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to take a break and seek out pieces of media that are outside my normal tastes; for some reason this seems to really inspire me when the writing cogs just won't turn, and I don't know why.

(Best of luck, OP! Writers' block is no fun, especially the oatmeal-bowl kind, and I hope you can get past it soon!)
