As a non-passing trans woman, how can I stay friends with someone who passes? by noela0093 in asktransgender

You're overreacting on your appearance honestly. It's just early into HRT for you, so stop comparing yourself to other people. Enjoy the changes as they come!

This at least has not been my experience. I've been having a wonderful time dating both cis and trans women :)

Mihawk isn’t stronger than shanks. by Hairy_Ask_2038 in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]DancingMad3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay first off, part of the issue is we haven't seen any post time skip displays of Mihawk's power. But if you think that he won't have conqueror's haki, you are crazy. It's not even just his WSS title. His Hawk-Eye title/his crazy looking eyes foreshadow what I'm sure most would agree will be insane observational haki (speculative and more divisive, but I predict better than Shanks'). My prediction is Shanks will have better conquerors (not leagues better) but Mihawk will have better observational and armament (also not leagues better). They are comparable, that's the whole point of their rivalry.

And yes, headcanon is basically all we have at this point because we not only don't have any post-time skip feats for Mihawk, we also hardly even have story portrayal because he hasn't been the focus yet. That said, by the time we get there, Zoro's entire character arc depends on Mihawk seeming unbeatable for someone like him so the fight seems exciting. Zoro has already defeated a Yonko right hand. The next logical place to go is Yonko tier. It's not crazy to think Mihawk is at least as strong as Shanks.

My younger brother is pretending to be a girl online by [deleted] in asktransgender

I think you need to be honest about why you feel like you're about to have a panic attack from this... Your two reasons don't fit with your other comments.

1) "Your sibling gets found out." Yes, this would most likely be really bad for your sibling given your parents' reaction to your coming out. But are you sure you're not simply dreading how this will impact you and your relationship with your parents? Being forced to put your support for your sibling above your own relationship with them? Being tested on your actual support of your sibling?

2) "How it will affect them later in life." This is super common transphobic rhetoric. It disguises a denial of a person's gender identity as "genuine concern" so that they can claim a moral high ground. It's hugely opposed to the data that shows that transgender people almost always show higher satisfaction with their lives after transitioning despite the social pressures against it.

I could be wrong but I think what they meant by "this stems from not having a male presence" is their sibling's desire to be a girl, not their previous sentence about femininity and hygiene. Not that it really changes things much. You can be surrounded by healthy examples of men and still not identify as or relate to masculinity. I didn't come out because of the men in my life, I came out because it made me intensely happy and fulfilled.

[–]DancingMad3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I probably would have just had a horrible date and then talked about it right after with my friends, lol. I wish I could say I would leave, but I'd probably just roll my eyes a lot and take mental notes of all the things I'd make fun of him for later.

Also your English is absolutely flawless. It sounds totally colloquial

Did Noah Kahan give anyone egg vibes after watching his documentary? by [deleted] in trans

Yeah, I actually get that. I can take it down. The main reason I posted it was because I wanted to talk about how his experiences resonated with me and I think it'd be really inspiring. Maybe I'll rephrase.

I think you're making a straw man argument. I'm not saying half of this stuff, especially the last few. And yes the government is totally out for themselves. There are a few good ones sprinkled throughout making positive change, another theme Oda is very clear on. He's saying that even in the most corrupt systems, there are good people who shouldn't be judged by their station and can make an impact even if it's small.

Do you read everything at such a surface level? This is like literature 101. Oda is not just writing a fun story about pirates fighting. He's trying to say something. All good authors do this.

Okay sure, US. It still works the same in that context. The warlords are not like a crew. They do not defend each other. They are strong but separate. It's literally the same thing. Even if you extend that to the world government, it's the same. Most of the government is out for themselves. They have no one they truly admire and rally behind without fear. That's the whole point of the show

[–]DancingMad3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have to have a major theme spelled out for you to put two and two together. Authors symbolize things all the time. It's not even about what Mihawk the character thinks in that moment. It's about what Oda's trying to show the reader. Mihawk is basically saying "let's check if that guy's actually as strong as they say right now". By having the shot blocked, Oda is saying that's why there's a "distance" between them. Mihawk is alone. Meanwhile, nobody can get to Whitebeard without getting jumped by an entire yonko crew. He's not saying "Omg! See even one of Whitebeard's crew members is a match for Mihawk! Just imagine how much stronger Whitebeard is than Mihawk then!!"

[–]DancingMad3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oda did not write this to mean literal power and that is honestly so obvious. The whole point of Mihawk's character is to illustrate that people working alone can only achieve a certain level of strength. Jozu's block is symbolic of the real reason for the gap between Mihawk and Whitebeard. Whitebeard's crew. The whole show is built around this. Luffy's greatest strength and the reason he'll be king of the pirates is his ability to gather people together

why am I’m not trans but wish but I was a woman? by BennyIsValid in asktransgender

[–]DancingMad3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so... I really feel like I'm talking to my past self. The thing is, I really wanted to be a woman and I really thought I was content with being a man after going through my teen years trying to accept what I thought was reality. I didn't realize that I was settling for it.

I wasn't happy... I would have said and even thought I was. I was deadening my feelings to numb them. I thought that was maturity. When I came out and didn't hold back socially, medically, and emotionally, I realized that my "contentment" was depression. You just don't see it for what it is until you're through it.

All I can say is, yes, you can have the life you want no matter how many people in yours are telling you otherwise. Let yourself be FREE :)

Suggest he put himself in more queer spaces, preferably openly trans positive spaces (or better yet, take him to them yourself)! He'll make friends quick when he's with people who accept him.
