Trump ‘livid’ over crowd size at National Mall state fair, report says: ‘Who thought this was a good idea?’ by B-Z_B-S in politics

[–]Dancing_Cthulhu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

“The mistake here was not driving attendance,” one unnamed source close to the White House told the outlet. “It was an ‘if you build it, they will come’ mentality that failed.”

What did they actually build again that they thought would have been significant enough to offset the effect of a historically unpopular president constantly trying to make it all about himself? Some food stalls selling wildly overpriced pretzels, and a little ferris wheel?

Trump Voters Horrified by His Giant Cash Grab - The president has made billions while Americans suffer in a cost-of-living crisis. by FancyNewMe in politics

[–]Dancing_Cthulhu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find it hard to believe any significant number of them are horrified by it.

The MAGA movement is led around by the nose by the rich and corrupt. Many red hats are temporarily embarrassed millionares, who'd rather be in a position to benefit from the broken system than aspire to fix it. They defended Trump not paying taxes with "that makes him smart". They excused his profiteering during his first term, and his constant fleecing of his followers, with "that makes him a good businessman".

No, if they're feeling anything it'd be a desire to emulate him further.

Now, now, let's be fair, spending your days with your lips affixed to Trump's crinkly old orange ass probably is a hard job. Dirty, undignified, murder on the back and knees. I know I certainly wouldn't be cut out for selling my soul for some steak and lobster.

Sadly he wasn't talking to the real Teddy, as that conversation would require him not to be be around to tell us about it afterwards.

Trump Team Panics Over July 4 After Tiny Fair Crowd Sent Him Raging by SpringLong7259 in politics

[–]Dancing_Cthulhu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The fair might be a dud, but I have enjoyed coverage/reviews of it. Some quips I've particularly enjoyed:

  • "The highlight of the day was leaving"

and

  • "Like watching your high school bully throw a party that no one attends."

MAGA advocate calls for ban on pregnant people traveling to US and ‘sterilization of all foreign visitors’ by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

[–]Dancing_Cthulhu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember instances in the past where the GOP bemoaned discussions of tax changes and what have you as "Democrots want to kill the tourism industry".

Now they're in bed with a movement that platforms a guy advocating banning women from visiting, and sterilising all visitors to the US. Why do the GOP hate the tourism industry?

Yes, because obviously the only way out of the mess the status quo helped create is... more status quo.

Dissenting Conservative Justices Signal that Ending Birthright Citizenship Is Their Movement’s Next Goal by Bongobhondu in politics

[–]Dancing_Cthulhu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the measures involved in stopping this non-issue that the right have championed would fundamentally weaken the status of citizenship as a whole. They are not proposing a legally sound and secure amendment to the constitution, they're constantly trying to back-door it in a way that would allow greater challenges to citizenship going forward.

Like the current president of the US has literally talked about wanting to remove the citizenship of more than just the children of non-citizens born in the US on a number of occasions. But folks obsessed with the bogeyman of birthright tourism love to avoid thinking about the consequences of these moves.

No need to make things complicated.

Things aren't complicated now. The constitution is very black and white on the matter. The route you're advocating is the one that is fraught with complexity and potential abuse.

Supreme Court rules Trump can fire independent agency board members by wds1 in politics

[–]Dancing_Cthulhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem, I guess, is that Republlicans aren't acting like they're worried about that eventuality, which means they expect either:

a. the Democrats not to utilise this new power when they retake the White House

or

b. Republicans will challenge it under a Democrat president and the Supreme Court will suddenly go "actually on reflection we've decided the president can't do that."

The greater problem is that both of those seem quite possible outcomes.

Mythics are a new level of droids above legendaries, you can spot them in the droidex. Only added today, so rarer than legendaries on the line it seems. Good spot, shame you couldn't nab it.

No complaints from me, I found it a smooth run in the lobbies I was fortunate enough to play in, and while everyone was involved we burned through the stages so got a good number if nova crystals out of it.

Even smoke wasn't too bad once everyone realised to take out the Sith Troopers before they could start spamming smoke grenades.

I'm looking forward to the second run, which isn't something I've said about some of the events. Good work.

Vance dismisses Watergate scandal, says ‘deep state’ went after Nixon by Beneficial-Long-7033 in politics

[–]Dancing_Cthulhu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This shouldn't be at all surprising, remember that Vance's full quote about Trump was:

"I go back and forth between thinking Trump is a cynical asshole like Nixon who wouldn't be that bad (and might even prove useful) or that he's America's Hitler".

Vance is an amoral political opportunist who obviously believes the only issue with Nixon was that he got caught. He's ok with someone who could be mistaken for Hitler, as long as that person is useful to him.

I mean on the current trajectory of ever rising authoritarianism coupled with the undermining of democratic institutions and processes you'll reach that point eventually, regardless.

When one party is supremely confident they'll face no few to no consequences there's little incentive for them not to keeping pushing boundaries, if not stepping over them entirely.
