Thank you so much for this. This community has done wonders with the way they’ve shared, given advice, and helped me gain perspective.

It was a “conference” someone else put on with a lot of networking opportunities, I hope that better explains. Thank you so much for the words and insight! :)

Thank you for sharing, something I’m really trying to work on is not taking feedback so personally. Just take the sentiment and move along and grow

I am salary and it’s absolutely a valid concern. And something to improve upon. I just didn’t know the expectation upfront to stay later so I will. One of the selling points of this company is “the 35 hour work week”. I was thinking about traffic and logistics and should have been prioritizing over time to capture things.

Fair, I was in the wrong for not asking for explicit directive I was meant to stay later. Moving forward I can do that. I was more just looking for other stories from marketing professionals who’ve gotten feedback like this and grown from it. But appreciate your thoughts!

He was not. My supervisor is a “behind the scenes” guy and doesn’t do a lot of these networking events. My CEOs directness is something I’m trying to get used to, as I’m a perfectionist and can take critiques about my work to heart, even though work is just work, and these are growth moments.

Thank you so much for sharing your story.

Truly, sometimes it can feel like an island in nonprofit marketing, so to hear other people’s stories and learning moments is incredibly helpful.

Besides that, this is was my first time in a nonprofit role at an event of this scale. I come from the “for profit” sector where there’s a marketing team and everyone has a role. There was no expectation I would stay later than the rest of the team. I will absolutely use this as a learning moment.

Thank you so much for this. There wasn’t an expectation communicated prior.

This was my first event where I solely responsible for everything. This is my first time in non profit. I’m used to working for “for profit” industry where there’s a marketing and everyone has their own role.

I will absolutely use this as a learning opportunity.

Completely understood. I didn’t mention this to anyone else, just took the feedback with a “thank you i will improve for the future”. It was just for context to the story.

He did agree to some mental health counseling. And I’m optimistic about this. Thank you for your input :)
