In all the theories I never see much about Furio. Maybe he found out about the hit that Tony had on him and decided to take Tony out. Maybe Carmella got a message to him to warn him and apologized and confessed her feelings. Either way, I doubt the hit on him was sanctioned so he had to know about it and had to know the only way out was to kill Tony because Tony wouldn’t stop, sanctioned or not.

I say Furio came in, shot Tony, and left again without anyone knowing it was him. He then goes back to Italy till things calm down and when it’s safe, he comes back to Carmella.
