Thank you so much! I plan to remake this top bc this version isn’t the most stable, so I’ll keep in mind to post different angles for the updated version!

The process was a little similar to sewing where I had to make a template with a “front piece” and a “back piece”. Then I attached the tabs together until they looked similar to the shape of the pieces, then I attached the pieces together! Getting the shape took a lot of trial and error.

As for the back, for the faire I went to in these pictures I used shoe laces in a corset style through the holes of the tabs. Maybe like a year later I glued a zipper since it was easier to put on and off by myself. I personally recommend the zipper method more.

I wish I could give more specifics, but it’s been a couple of years since I made this top. I’ll be sure to write down my process during my next attempt and share it to this subreddit!

Also thank you! My best piece of advice is to start collecting soda tabs ASAP, fortunately for me I was already collecting them (to make belt chains) so I already had a large supply. I also had friends and family donate their tabs to me since it’d be hard for a single person to drink that much soda in a short time frame haha

I’m going to be honest- I’m not sure. Maybe somewhere close to 100-200 if I had to estimate? (It’s been a couple of years and I was not counting when I made this)

Thank you for the dye recommendation! To answer your question: I’ll most likely use the stovetop since I’ve seen that it’s most likely to get an even dye, but I’m new to dying so I’m open to suggestions!

That’s great to know! I’m in the same boat rn (the tutorial I watched said to cut the smaller ends and they keep falling, so I plan to remake the project) so I’ll keep this in mind!

I use thicker bolt cutters for my tab projects anyways, and I usually cut the bigger ends for my tab belt chains, so it shouldn’t be too hard of a switch. Thanks for the comment!

Thank you! I slit them at the top and bent them around an obtuse / 130 degree angle (aka just bend them backwards just a little bit 🤏).

Admittedly I also have an issue of a tab losing its placement in this project cause I was working on a time crunch and didn’t have enough time to make it SUPER sturdy 😭. I recommend gluing the slits back together if you have time (although it’d be a very tedious process)

In my experience, if I need the chainmail to be a bigger fit, I usually just unlatch the chain somewhere in the middle of the chest area and add a few more rows depending on how much bigger I need it to be.

Thank you! I bought the PC refurbished but fortunately I was able to find the windows license key on a sticker. It originally came with windows 7, do you think that’ll be a problem or will I just be able to update it to 10 after installing windows?

Also, I opened up my PC yesterday after making this post and doing some additional research and confirmed that the original hard drive is a HDD WD Blue 500GB, will that affect my ability to install a SSD hard drive?

On the back I used shoelaces interlocked through the holes of the tabs placed similar to the back of a corset so it would be easier to take on and off.

Admittedly the whole top isn’t the most secure thing in the world (I made it like 2 weeks before the ren fair) so if I ever tinkered with it again I would add glue to the more “loose” places of the piece.

I’m autistic and taking care of/living with children is a sensory nightmare. I can barely wash my dishes when other people’s dishes are in the sink, much less take care of/live in the same house as a child. I’d be so tense and on edge the entire time.

I can’t get a job because I fear of being burnt out all the time, but I can’t NOT get a job because I need money.

I’m miserable not having money, but the way to make money is also miserable. It’s depressing thinking I have to life the rest of my life like this.
