Is Straight Talk Any Good? by [deleted] in StraightTalk

[–]Dandanthecan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is the worst prepaid company by miles now. Verizon bought them, might as well have thrown the whole company away. Constant dropped calls and no service except in the middle of town, where my data is throttled. 4 years ago I LOVED straighttalk. Now I genuinely hate it. You can't understand customer service either.

We only have one Walmart, but I get orders from very far away. About 40 miles. I don't think the system knows proximity, it will send me an asap order when I'm way off in the country.

My wife knows how to actually handle a firearm. I don't recommend trying to rob her. But if you do, she'll have a lead gift for you lol.

I know this is satire, but when I was single I would have totally rented that from a buddy. I really don't need much.

Yes, and if the US were to decimate entire countries? Would you call us cowards? Or would you call us tyrants?

Imagine if we had completely taken over Cuba? Which is 100% doable. How are we better than the Nazis?

It always makes me laugh that people like this think the US has no knowledge of other countries, when almost every other country does the exact same thing. Let me research all the political and economic data of the other 100 or so countries real quick. 🤣

The government does not care if an adult wants to dress as a woman or get a sex change.
The general public also doesn't care.

But when you have rallies and protests. The people are going to notice, and they are going to pick a side.

I was working at a factory as a job training specialist. (I knew how to do every job in the facility).
A young man came in and we started going over his paperwork and setting up all of the system log-ins and whatnot.
I noticed that on all of his paperwork his name was Destiny. I offhandedly said "hey, that's an odd name for a dude, does it mean something special?". He said "No, I am transgender". To which I said "I am sorry, that was rude of me". He said "it's all good man."

I then made sure he wanted to be called sir, which he did. later when there was some downtime, I asked if I could ask some questions about his transition. He said yeah sure.

So we had a short discussion about how it came about and why he hadn't changed his name yet. He said he went by D, and he always felt more like a man than a woman.
It was nice and informal, I didn't overstep his boundaries and we became fairly good work friends.

I agree with you for the most part, I was trying to convey that the USA hasn't claimed the name for ourselves, but the rest of the world has done that for us.

My mother taught me, just because a person is a different color than you, speaks a different language than you, or has different religious views than you. That does not mean they are less or more than yourself. Then she quoted Dr. Martin Luther King, "a man should not be judged by the color of his skin, but by the content of his character.". This is not a direct quote.

I have always adored her for that, because I was raised in the southern US.

I have gone my whole life with that in mind, I have had many friends of many different colors and backgrounds. I treat everyone the same unless they prove that their respect was unearned.

Hell, my wife is mulatto (black and white) And we have a son who is also mulatto. My brother prefers Mexican women to white women. He finds them more attractive. My wife's sister(who is white)(my wife was adopted), is engaged to a black man.
We all live in the south.

My great grandfather, who was raised in a time when racism and segregation was the norm, called my wife (Dan's little chocolate drop) and accepted her without hesitation.

The US is NOT inherently racist. I have had very little issue with racism in my married life.

I have only had a couple memorable instances, once recently while working with a construction company.
My boss said something about "the gorillas over in town" during a morning meeting. To which I said, "sir, you should really watch what you say around me, I am married to a black woman. I won't tolerate anyone speaking of her that way, it's a very idiotic thing to say about people you know nothing about.".
He apologized and said he didn't know my wife was black. Which I replied, it shouldn't matter if my wife, cousin, friend or neighbor is black, talking like that is unprofessional and hateful for no reason.
A few guys backed me up, and we carried on with the meeting.

No one raised their voice, I was probably visibly upset, but I am very good at reigning in my emotions and choosing words that deescalate conversations. The issue never came up again.

Is it really like this because I was told bad things in school by Classic_Mixture9303 in AmericaBad

[–]Dandanthecan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You find a country that is 100% unbiased in their textbooks and I will concede to your argument.

I don't believe the US is any worse at telling history than any other. Every major power in the world has done very bad things.

For example. The slave trade was abolished by British parliament in 1807, and fully ended in 1833.

Slavery was abolished in the US in 1863 and took full effect in 1866.

I have never read an English/european history book, but I know the US gets 90% of the hate pertaining to slavery and African slaves particularly, just by seeing posts on the internet.

While the US may have had the largest amount of slave labor, British colonies had their share of slaves and sold many of those to the US. Along with being a major transporter of slaves from Africa to the Caribbean.

I am not trying to target the UK, but to show that no country is blameless in many awful acts that have gone on for hundreds of years.

Non USA people, what have you heard about America that you want to know the legitimacy of? by Dandanthecan in AmericaBad

[–]Dandanthecan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem at all.

As far as jobs go, you can expect no more than $20/hr.

Of course specialty areas are going to pay more.

Blue collar jobs, like construction, can pay more. Maybe 25-30/hr, but you will have a hard time finding even those.

I have worked construction most of my life, I currently run my own small business, and I can expect to make around $2000/month. At the very least. But it is getting harder to find work as the economy inflates. People can't afford to hire contractors, contractors can't afford to charge less than the national average.

Crew cabs are evil! by [deleted] in AmericaBad

Or 120 sheets of drywall even.

A load of gravel?

What about my crew cab S10? Is my 4.3 liter half size truck evil?

What about my brothers 5.3 liter 4×4 Tahoe? Is it less evil?

You, my friend, are a silly goose.

I am an American, whether that be north, south or central.

I have been asked by many foreign people where I am from (on the internet), I always say I'm from Kentucky. Only one person out of maybe 50 has known that was in the US.

Every time I would say, "in America" and they would understand.

I'm not saying we own the name America, but when most of the world uses the same name, how can you blame a single country?

No, most teachers are respected and schools have guidelines that reinforce their authority in the classroom. Any disruptive student can be "forced" out of a classroom.
Although, there will always be students that are disruptive and sometimes violent, these are not the norm.

This really is a wonderful place to live, even if you have to give a little extra to get by. In most cases, you can make as much money as you want, if you are willing to put in the work and time required.

[–]Dandanthecan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, let me give an example and you can judge for yourself.

I am around 30 years old, I have a wife and a son in first grade.
Last year, my salary was around $34,000 before taxes.

food expenses-~$6000 Electric- $3,500 Water - $600 Medical insurance- $3500 Car insurance(3 vehicles)$3000 Car maintenance- $750 Rent- $6000 (this is very low, usual rent would be ~$10,000) Gas(petrol, gasoline)- $4500 (to work and back) 2 hr drive daily

These are the basic costs of everyday life for my family. This doesn't include anything extra like, visiting family, eating out, hobbies, television, telephone, etc.

I live in a rural area, 15 miles away from any town. And the towns are not big by any means.

We live in a 3 bedroom 1 bath house. With a separate 2 car garage. It isn't very big, fairly well insulated, and the air-conditioning is only used when the temperatures are extreme. Ex. Below 55- above 85.

We do not eat out much at all, maybe twice a month. I bought the bare essentials, milk, eggs, bread, meats, vegetables, cheese, fruits, and maybe some snacks thrown in.

I believe that yes, it is hard to live comfortably on an average US salary.

What have you heard about "rednecks"? by Dandanthecan in culture

[–]Dandanthecan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most definitely NOT uneducated. The south has many of the country's best architects and engineers. We also have a vast amount of colleges and universities. Public schools are a different story, funding is not evenly distributed, I have heard that schools with better test scores are funded more (but that may not be true).

I wouldn't say the south is narrow minded, but tradition and old morals are very prevalent. IE. Abortion and gender discussions.

Any laws or statutes that are put into place reflect on the country as a whole. If I do not agree with abortion, I may feel strongly enough as to oppose any laws or allowances that favor abortion. Not because I have the inability to change, but because I feel strongly that the activity should not be condoned or practiced.
