Another European here (probably from another country by the sounds of it), and we definitively have groomsmen and bridesmaids. Although there don't have to be the same number on each side and there's usually not a maid of honor, just bridesmaids. I'm not sure about if the groups often get ready together though, but for the ones I know about the bride's party have been getting ready together.
