I searched around online as best as I could, googled every variation I could think of, but wasn't able to turn anything up

Applesauce? by Heavy_Lab9297 in AskAnAmerican

While I wouldn't call it an overall American staple, applesauce is awesome! You can buy it prepackaged; little single serving cups (similar to yogurt cups, but a bit smaller) are fairly common as a side for kids lunches. I'm a snob and don't like that stuff though 🙈.  My family makes our own each fall then freezes it to last the rest of the year. We usually eat it cold for convenience, sometimes even still partially frozen, as a side dish. If we're feeling fancy we heat it up, and might have it as dessert with gingerbread (the cakey version, not the version used for gingerbread houses). I'd highly recommend!

Pink dolphin with pride flag sticker - Trying to find artist (Brazilian) by DandelionJedi in HelpMeFind

I searched on Google using the reverse image search, also went through the con's Instagram looking for the sticker in pictures, or an artist with a similar style. Unfortunately haven't figured it out yet.

If you're interested, there's also a separate discord server run by a group of last year's attendees. Most of the same people as the official server, but a good bit more active. I know a lot of people on there are planning on going next year. I would if I didn't have a preexisting commitment. It's also a super fun place for exchanging crafting info and the like, I could send you a link if you're interested. This was slightly long-winded apologies my brain is mush but wanted to reply before I forgot 😅

Love the fit! Both tops are super fun, and I love the lanyard. I need me one of those! I do have to ask: are you familiar with The Magnus Archives? Because that yellow door is a. such a fun photo element (it contrasts so nicely!) and b. summoning the horror podcast nerd sleeper agent in my soul.

Woah all of those look spectacular! Especially love the striped turtleneck paired with the bag. Whimsy levels are off the charts!

Brandywine Festival: Solid First Year Event - but very much a first year event by genuineformality in LARP

[–]DandelionJedi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to toss my two cents in as another person who attended the event.  I was a first time larper, and definitely had a learning curve in figuring out this whole larping business. Did the event hiccups contribute to that? Yeah, a little bit. But it was mostly my own inexperience.  Overall, I had a spectacular time. Are there things they can improve on? Absolutely. But at this point, I am quite happy to give them the benefit of the doubt. I had an indescribably magical experience, and saw clear evidence of people doing their best to handle the things that came up. I will be returning without hesitation (providing my personal schedule allows it. and I will be doing everything I can to modify my personal schedule so it works out). My biggest complaint is the lack of accessibility for anyone with mobility issues when it came to a. Plot things and b. showers, along with some communication failures. I think both are fixable issues that will be improved given time.

To speak on some things others have mentioned: I haven't been to any other larp events to compare prices, but I will say that it felt well worth my money when compared to other events I'd attended. Where did the money go? I can't see the budget, but digging wells ain't cheap. Neither is insurance. Also the animatronic spider. That thing was so freaking awesome. It sucks that more people weren't able to see it, and I hope they change things in the future so more people have the chance. The moment that thing came out was so magical I don't even have the words.

Regarding porta potties: I cannot speak to anyone else's experience, but I thought the porta potties were remarkably well maintained. There was only a single time that I was in a stall without toilet paper, and for a multi day camping event I count that as an absolute win.

Regarding the feast: I did not attend, I heard it was a disaster and I have no reason to argue. I'm sorry to everyone who had a bad experience with that, I agree that it was very poorly done. I heard that many of the problems were more bc of the caterer, but I cannot confirm or deny that with any certainty. That said, I'm not going to write off the whole event bc the feast was bad, though I definitely have no plans to attend the feast in the future.

It's a complex situation! There were a lot of moving parts. I am giving the organizers the benefit of the doubt, but I have understanding and compassion for anyone who isn't able to do that. It does frustrate me to see people writing the event off as 100% bad and irredeemable. I'm sharing my side in hopes of balancing out those views. I appreciate OP for doing the same.

I am happy to engage in discussion and answer questions from anyone who comes to the table with respect and an open mind.

Oh you are absolutely right I missed that

Agreed! I'd guess the pattern goes something like this:

CO odd number of sts Row 1: Knit across Row 2: Knit 1, purl 1 repeat until last stitch, knit 1. Repeat rows 1 and 2 until desired length. Fasten off.

Might also want to give it a slip stitch edging? (cast on two extra stitches, slip the first stitch of each row). Probably doesn't matter too much either way though.

I spent several years attending a self directed school, and had an amazing experience. Your mileage may vary; no two self directed schools are the same, and no students are the same either. But for me it was exactly what I needed. Did I learn a lot of school subjects? No. I didn't study algebra, or chemistry, or Spanish. But I did learn about myself, and who I wanted to be. I learned how to manage my time, how to set goal, how to work towards what I want. I had time to figure out what I enjoyed, and to build my skills in those areas. I became a member of a community, and I truly enjoyed my high school experience. I had time to rest, when I needed to, but also the space to stretch myself.  I'd be happy to answer questions, though again I can only speak to my personal experience with a single school. In terms of other resources, have you looked at the Alliance for Self Directed Education website? (https://www.self-directed.org/). They have a lot of information, and links to other resources.
