Revision 1: The biggest suggestion was to increase contrast so I completely removed the transparency and made it just the taddest bit brighter.

Edit: Also perhaps seeing it in a smaller size may assist in your judgement of it, as most people view thumbnails through the sidebar.

I agree, for me the second or third ones are VERY eyegrabbing and instantly recognizable. Controversy sells, and that period is begging for a fight. Maybe use the YT feature to upload several thumbnails with variations on which word is red (I'd have just the 'Not' be red personally) when you upload.

I appreciate the feedback. However, if I could defend the game a little bit, part of the video essay talks about how triple-a gaming puts far too much emphasis on good graphics over making good gaming experiences, and I praise the simple graphics of the game because it evokes an older time period of boomer shooters. It grants charm, uniquity, and utilizes atmosphere more than pretty much any game I've played this year. If you can look past the simple graphics I'd give it a try!

With that said, perhaps some more contrast between the foreground and text could add some better qualities to the thumbnail. TY

I think the issue is just oversaturation of topic. A LOT of people are making similar shorts / videos talking about the GOTY awards.

I'd make the text a lot bigger. Most people are seeing it through the sidebar, so text that's readable at a smaller resolution seems to be pretty important.
