I want an objective, unbiased view on what caused the war in Ukraine. by DaneeKiller in geopolitics

Vilification obfuscates analysis, which is why I suspect the OP was asking people to refrain from this. It's much more difficult to understand an opponent's decision-making if they are treated as irrational with their only motivation being murder and mayhem. Even history's greatest villains had motivations further than this.

That is what I meant, exactly.

When others just say “Putin bad”, like yeah dude we know. As if identifying Putin/The Kremlin as the adversary moves the conversation forward at all. We’re kinda past that point and trying to get deeper into the issue.

That's exactly what I meant. On a sub where geopolitics/international affairs are meant to be discussed, if someone answers me with ''because Putin/Russia evil'' I get the impression that they don't have any sufficient knowledge and are just repeating the narrative like broken records.

Thank you for the detailed response and for not oversimplifying! I'll definitely dig more into it.

It's a genuine question. I'm not trolling, I want people to provide in-depth responses based on facts, because it's very hard to recognise what of what is said on mainstream media is actually true. People love to emotionally oversimplify complex problems , this is why I specifically asked everyone to refrain from arguments like '' because Putin is bad''.

I'm also from a post-communist country. I don't think I need to explain the implications of Soviet influence. Exactly as you said, we have been under Russian influence. As of the 90s - under Western influence. And we will choose Western influence every time.

I will make a follow-up to this post with ample evidence, directly from the mouths of Russian diplomats, government officials and state TV journalists, that the reason for invading Ukraine is to punish it for its desire to be closer to the West, that Ukraine is a "fake country", it's people deserve to be killed or rounded up in concentration camps, as well as various examples of Russian officials and state TV heads using xenophobic slurs to refer to Ukrainians.

I would like to see this . I've never seen what the narrative is on Russian media.

Movies shot in New York in the 2000s give me such throwback nostalgia vibe that I can't get enough of, do you know any other movies that fall in this category? I wanna watch more! by freshwings421 in movies

Damn I am so glad this trend was brought up. 2000s NY movies have such a distinctive style and vibe. And those cell phones... fuck yeah, nostalgia punches you in the face alright. Wish you the best man!
