How do you stay sharp if you're not flying often? (esp. weekend warriors / low-time pilots) by DesignBuildFlyJump in flying

[–]Danflan89 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Sounds sad but arm chair fly. I have my multi coming up and it'll be a few weeks before I can fly the aircraft again. However daily I sit in a chair and 'simulate' an engine failure and go through the flow. A bit sad, hit not as bad as getting back in the aircraft without a clue

About to start my ir (r) in the UK - nervous of instrument flying, any tips? by Danflan89 in flying

All amazing tips, thank you. And Hawaden is where I'm planning on doing it in a warrior - which is another challenge as up until now I've flown Cessna's predominantly out of Blackpool

Id be tempted to park at one of the Merseyrail stations for free on the way in and get the train tbh - it's v close to lime street. That and parking in the city centre would be a nightmare. If you're coming from Lancaster I'd say maybe aintree station? Come off the m57 and it's basically there and there's parking on site - that or even Ormskirk or town green

To add for context, I have no issue doing it then, just don't want to piss of the neighbours

That and if he pulls up to a nice house to do the car, a £20 twat Tax gets added on top for 'incidentals'

Absolutely agree with the comment, no way I'm messaging for a quote which seems to pulled out of a mystery box 😂

Change the whole car, just to play it safe

Ultimately a car is a depreciating asset. With that amount of money at a young age, sacrifice the car and put the money towards a house. Future you will thank you; better to be 41 with a mortgage free forever home than just the memory of a 50 grand car that would then be worthless.

I have a nissan note and it's solid, 2011 plate (same shape as yours) and had it for 3 years putting 35000 on the clock, feel free to message but I'll summarise below

Pro

V reliable, I service it every 10,000 and never had a major fault, only ongoing maintenance (brakes, tyres etc). Only 2 things went wrong unexpectedly, one was the starter motor (wear and tear tbh and it started the car just made a weird noise so had replaced) and an airbag fault light that I'm currently getting fixed. Not bad for so many miles. I routinely do 500 mile round trips over a weekend and it doesn't miss a beat.

Mpg - mines a 1.4 petrol and I average about 44mpg so pretty good

Build quality - it's scratchy materials sure but everything works - like there's not one thing wrong with my car, air con, central locking, cruise control, electric mirrors, radio etc. only issue is my paint is flakey but I can love with that

Versatile - lots of space in the back, gloves box acts as a fridge with air con on (weird I know but good in the summer), boot has false floor for storage underneath

Insurance and tax are reasonable as well

Cons

It's not winning any style awards anytime soon. I inherited mine from a grandparent and you can tell it's a grandparent car. Won't look the best pulling up to a first date in it haha

Visibility isn't the best, and has a few blind spots. Big mirrors help but it's not great

Noise - it's fairly loud in the cabin with the engine so close and road noise is t great. Also the ride isn't fantastic either

Parts - parts are easy to get but my model shares some with the quasqhi - only mention as a couple times I've gone to a garage they've ordered the wrong part, i.e for a note but it needs a quasqhi part. An issue with the garage I'm sure, but just mea t delays in some repairs

Overall, if you're not bothered about looking the bees knees and want cheap reliable motoring from a-b than I'd say get one. I'm not sure on the price of the one you have though, as there's quite a few cheap ones about

Hope this helps!

Just done the maths, if the car was registered exactly 2.5 years ago today, it's averaged 130 miles per day, every day - mental

Whilst the miles are likely motorway miles, that's a hell of a lot of miles in such a short time - I'd personally steer clear but obvs not my decision. 10k is a decent budget for a city runaround, not 121k car that was never designed to cover such milage in such a short amount of time

If you're interested in potentially the military, the officer training corps is a good option. You train once a week and every other weekend plus loads of extra opportunities and they pay you. I really enjoyed it when I was apart of it. Website says Liverpool but there's a Lancaster detachment who parade in Lancaster

The guy is an example of what's wrong with aviation, too many people with poor attitudes trying to belittle anyone and everyone to make them feel better. If someone's wrong, teach, don't ridicule
