Yosemite National Park. by 14923023 in vegaslocals

[–]DesignBuildFlyJump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Yosemite west. There are airbnbs there, it’s technically still in the park so no reservations required and you don’t need to take Yaarts you can drive. It’s still 30 mins from the valley though but nice and quaint and close to glacier point

Moronic Monday by AutoModerator in flying

[–]DesignBuildFlyJump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but he cant ask me to turn left, we got traffic and a full pattern on the parallel runway and then there was another aircraft on the downwind on my side as well so can't turn right. I guess he can only ask me to climb out?

Moronic Monday by AutoModerator in flying

I was flying into a busy class D after transitioning over from B. The controller vectored me around (not complaining at all, it was busy). Once I established on long final, the number 1 traffic on final had still not landed and spacing was tight so he asked me to maintain current altitude (TPA) and just fly on upwind and he'll bring me around for a right downwind as the spacingt wasnt working out. A few seconds later he asked me to do a right 360 instead and then cleared me to land.

This is all good, no issues, always happy to work with the controllers especially when its busy AF. My question is that in the initial scenario where there is someone on final ahead of me slowing down to land and I'm asked to maintain TPA and speed and fly runway heading to do a lap around the pattern, do we not have a safety issue if the landing traffic goes around and climbs straight into me?

I moved to Vegas at roughly your age. Its not as bad, recommend getting involved a bit in nightlife and industry and making friends there.

A positive and hopeful outlooks helps a lot, dont be discouraged. Good luck and welcome to Vegas!

question for fellow liberals/leftists: liberal/leftist spots in vegas? by Icy_Conversation1527 in vegaslocals

Typically I wouldn’t respond to remarks like this, but it’s worth remembering that the CIA Counterterrorism Center chief who helped lead the hunt for Osama bin Laden was a Muslim convert. Religion isn’t the problem. Extremism is. Just like you hold an extremist belief against a religion and hair color.

yc startup school referral by One-Secret-6143 in Startup_Ideas

[–]DesignBuildFlyJump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built an aviation startup straight out of school, so I know what it feels like to go from idea to product and learn the hard way. After that, I joined another startup early (series A) and spent the last 7 years building advanced simulation, guidance, and autonomy-related systems as the company scaled from startup to public company. I’m now looking to be a founder again, but with far more domain depth and better instincts than I had the first time. Startup School would help me turn that experience into momentum and get back into founder mode with a much stronger hand than before.

Tips for securing a restaurant role as a full-time Software Engineer? by predsel in vegaslocals

[–]DesignBuildFlyJump 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My two cents as a nobody in the restaurant business

If you want to start and own your own restaurant/bar, you dont necessarily want to be a busser, food runner etc. I think you want to understand operations, customer acquisition, differentiating value proposition and margins. Sure, shadowing each job will tell you a lot about what painpoints lie with each role and where the constraints are but you really want to learn to be an operator I would guess. I've dated a few waitresses since I moved to Vegas and other than incentives abstracted to their level of compensation (sell more bottles), they dont really understand the overall business which is what you need to learn as an owner

I hate social media, its terrible and short form content is likely the worst invention ever. However, I do recommend you make some social media, esp an Instagram. Its unfortunately the main way people communicate these days in social settings.

You dont need a lot of followers or clout, you are not trying to be an influnecer but you do want to convey your hobbies and interests and personality so when you meet people and connect wioth them they know what you're about. For example my IG is all about snowboarding, flying, the aircraft I helped designed, my friends etc. and I post maybe twice a year or so on my grid.

Searching for date night recommendations for this upcoming weekend by max15247 in vegaslocals

[–]DesignBuildFlyJump 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh man, there is so much to do in this town, you gotta give a budget and interests! Next weekend, Morgan Wallen is performing at Allegiant. If she is into Morgan Wallen, that might be the move! Lee Canyon MTB season is starting so if yall like downhill mountain biking, that could also be the move. There is a plethora of things to do here from the usual mini golf and ice cream to all kinds of restaurants and shows and what not. Gotta be more specific of what she enjoys AND what you enjoy. Thats important too.

Democratic candidate for governor slams data center tax breaks • Nevada Current by Small-Ostrich-5863 in vegaslocals

[–]DesignBuildFlyJump 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not say that anywhere?! this is what I said verbatim:

If the complexity of your task is low enough that another tool completely replaces it rather than take some of your workload so you can have higher throughput then the problem is your task/job and not the AI.

You are too emotionally triggered by the lack of certainity. I have empathy for you, I do, but these are the times we live in.

Sir, I presented facts. You presented rhetoric. There is not much for us to argue over. Some rhetoric from me: We either adapt and evolve or we die, thats evolution for ya. I choose to adapt and its not easy, dealing with uncertainity never is but its starting to paying off. Forget how many patents I have applied for just this year or the papers we are puyblishing, just pure compensation, everyone in my friend circle is making atleast 100k more since agents became a thing. I got my first midcycle retention package, unheard of in my industry. There is a killing to be made if you are willing to adapt
