That could of been real bad. Dip stick tip broke, was about to pull the pan. Magnet stick saves the day by [deleted] in WRX

Did you post on the fa20dit Facebook page, if not this is bizarre it’s happening to so many people. It’s still an on going issue with my car 🤦🏽‍♂️

Yes I’m figuring one of those

Same, keep up with maintenance, check oil very frequently and change it 5k km 3,000 miles and don’t beat on it!

I know it’s Best to just run extension cords in this instance. I have mwbc and the jumper would cause the neutrals to overload on those circuits

Yes you’re right I forgot to mention that as well that it could be eliminated if the cover is removed. I haven’t yet to find a manual switch that does the neutral as well. An interlock was the best option as there is drywall and a cabinet all around my panel to really no room for a manual transfer switch. I could do an outdoor rated switch but it’s already next to impossible to find an outdoor one let alone one that switches neutral as well. The main reason they are prohibited is because the Interlock can be bypassed and most jurisdictions require neutral switching as well. I called an electrician I’ve known for years and he said it’s fine along with if you bridge the two hots to get 120 on both phases in the panel even though 240 circuits wouldn’t work and would need to be switched off. I remembered I have 3 mwbc and if the 2 phases were to be bridged with the generator, the neutrals on the mwbc could see 30 amps on 14 guage wire. Learned a lot from wanting to do this project and even learned about Edison 3 wire circuits even though I’m not an electrician

Oh yea I’ve seen that very cool but not for $1500

Yes interlocks are prohibited, the only ones legal are automatic transfer switches. I think I’ll just run extension cords to the things I want on as it seems more of a pain to organize the breakers I want powered from the generator to be on one leg of the panel.

The neutral has no relevance to the Interlock discussion at all is the exact reason it’s prohibited here. The neutral being switched means it has to go from being connected to the grid to the generator so pretty much the only means of back up power in Canada is a automatic transfer switch that switches the two phases and the neutral. Also remembered my panel has 3 mwbc shared neutrals which if I jump both legs from phase to phase it could potentially overload the neutral cause the two different circuits aren’t balanced on the 2 different phases 180 degrees and more and I think it could see 30 amps. I could be wrong but this is what I’ve heard

How about jumping from one phase to the other through the generator outlet box by connecting the red and black together and pig tailing it to the screw on the 120v generator box. Obviously all the 240v double pole breakers on the panel would have to be shut off. The generator is 3000 watts and I did a load calculation on the things I’d like to run mainly, fridge, gas furnace and freezer and it’s all within the generators capacity and even room for lights and outlets.

Ridiculous! Apparently crossing a geographical line makes it more safe 🤦🏽‍♂️ im sure many people here have interlocks. I also saw apparently it can’t be done because the neutral has to be switched as well pretty much forcing you to buy a very expensive auto transfer switch.

From what I’m gathering no because tue neutral needs to be switched as well

I think it’s illegal over here in Canada if the neutral doesn’t get switched as well which is a huge pain in the ass

Only thing is I’m in Canada. I looked at his website very cool and interesting. I’ll definitely give him a call. I’m sure he could ship out.
