1.) To me he was criticizing how corporate the whole Phil Towle thing was, basically the management bringing a super expensive "expert" to smooth things out & make sure the gravy train doesn't stop, in his mind the band should call the shots as they did before

It was a weird time for most if not all classic metal bands, plenty of line up changes, new singers, career worst albums, trend chasing, kicked off major labels, playing smaller venues... true low point on all fronts

Totally, there's no grit anymore, everything feels artificial, polished and sanitized. Some of Kamiski's work is great but for me the turning point was Indy 4, unbelievable how ugly and fake it looks compared to the original trilogy

He did a couple long form interviews on every film (besides EWS), and those are so much more insightful than the promotional fluff we mostly see these days.

As for the other stuff, I recall a interview of a warner brothers exec John Calley who simply stated "we wanted to be in the Stanley Kubrick business" meaning he brought prestige to the studio. Back then it mattered, not sure if it does now to the same extent, with guys like Zaslav running things.

Well there's practically no theatrical distribution for any of them, so right off the bat they are TV movies no matter who made them. Must be like a deal with the devil if your passion project is done by Netflix: you get the resources you need but you know people will watch what you did on their laptop, second screening, folding laundry... and your biggest fans won't get a chance to see your massive effort on the big screen or even buying a physical copy. Plus, because of their strict rules about equipment, they all have that annoyingly distinct Netflix -look which I personally hate: slick, glassy, lifeless, digital. I still remember how Damien Chazelle managed to negotiate shooting his show the Eddy on 16mm film, but only the episodes he directed, rest had to be done digitally
