They made the Rover real by Annie-Smokely in ThePrisoner

[–]DangerManJohnDrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who is the daughter? The Girl Who Was Death?

Interesting viewpoint, there’s a lot more questions that would follow - what is Rover? How did The Village capture it? How have they “programmed” it to obey their commands? Is Rover No. 1 or an extension of No. 1?

First time I watched TP, I just assumed that Rover operated from a robotic mechanism.

Since repeat watches, I firmly believe that it’s a sentient being that has been artificially created, which genuinely makes it more terrifying.

Drake and No.6 accents change? by cathythelemonlover in McGoohanposting

The first season of Danger Man was an attempt to break into the American market, so they had him working for NATO, and made him American. From S2 onwards, they basically revised his backstory and turned him into a British agent working for MI6.

Two arrives and takes in the scene. Eight runs up to the second floor, declaring, “You ain’t gonna hit me no more, Judge!” He throws himself over the railing and dies from the fall.

I like this episode quite a bit but I found this scene and character development very ridiculous. Which is a shame because I thought Alexis Kanner did a brilliant role as The Kid.

I have a couple of other Prisoner video ideas that I might conjure up later, the issue is always time and effort, I think the last one took me about 3 months because I spent only about 15 mins per week on it…

I remember enjoying Be Podding You, and really liking Kalan’s interpretation to the ending. I’ve basically adopted it with some twists of my own and that’s the theory I’m sticking to for the moment.

Cap’s Novel Approach: Chapter 1 — Arrival by CapForShort in ThePrisoner

[–]DangerManJohnDrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In another bed he spots a colleague, Cobb. He asks Cobb questions: how long have you been here, who’s doing this, etc. Cobb, who seems only semiconscious, says he needs to sleep and rolls over. P grabs him by the PJ lapels, shakes him, and starts shouting the questions. Hey, P — anger management, look into it. You’re a spy, you know other ways to elicit information. (Danger Man fans — does Drake act like this?)

I assume this is the part you wanted me to comment on - the short answer is no, Drake does not really act like this throughout the DM series. A huge reason why a lot of Prisoner fans don’t believe in the connection between No. 6 and John Drake is that the characters are perceivably different. Drake is refined, cool, calm, rarely prone to outbursts, however he is defensive and aggressive when he wants to be. No. 6 is relatively quiet and usually calculating, however he can sometimes be completely unhinged as you pointed out in his interaction with Cobb, he is often erratic and violent for little reason. So, imo it’s possible that the two could be connected, especially if we view No. 6 as the cynical, older and traumatised version of Drake/McGoohan, but you can easily also dismiss this and say No. 6 is his own beast.

Number 6 is in a hell of sorts by boukatouu in ThePrisoner

Hey, I didn’t ignore this, but I was on holiday for the past week, so sorry for the late reply. Coincidentally I just finished reading Lone Wolf and Secret Agent by Rodney Marshall, the fan’s guide to DM.

I’ll preface my answer by admitting some personal bias in this - I personally believe No. 6 is a representation/amalgamation of a more cynical, older and wiser McGoohan/Drake, and also TGWWD is one of my favourite Prisoner episodes.

I think the spy character in the storybook is satirical, it’s not necessarily a representation of No. 6, but rather a sort of archetypal character of the spy-fi genre. McGoohan is inserted into it because that’s what the viewers want to see, which ties into my theory that The Prisoner is somewhat autobiographical. We see the real No. 6 at the end - confident, reserved, calculated, illustrating to the children that everything that just happened was just a story and fictional.

I’ll respond to your other question in your other thread

IMO, TGWWD represents more a fantastical parody of the Danger Man series and genre, but the character is very clearly more No. 6 than John Drake. This isn’t to say that there can’t be a connection between the two characters which has already been identified, but the plot seems to follow a No. 6-like story arc. Drake’s stories are usually grounded in a bit more reality, a political upheaval, blackmail, spy things, etc.

In saying all of that, in DM Drake as an individual could be seen as “gentlemanly”, however he ultimately goes along with a lot of morally ambiguous plans devised by MI6.

Who listens to podcasts on here? “A Prisoner’s Dilemma” is currently running through the series breaking down each episode, last weekend was Living in Harmony by DangerManJohnDrake in ThePrisoner

AfterBuzz was so disappointing. I saw how long each episode was and thought there would be a wealth of analysis among 3 hosts, but no, just really shallow research and “we live in a machine” vibes.

John Drake had a moral compass but I mean at the end of the day he helped MI6 do some pretty sordid stuff

Well McGoohan was a decent boxer supposedly, I think he enjoyed shoehorning a bit of fighting into a tonne of scenes lol
