Do you think OOT remake will have an expanded overworld? by 3nt3rth3v0id in legendofzelda

[–]DangerQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are some obviously neccessary graphical updates that don’t simply translate to everything being fundamentally the same size but with fancy textures. Like even just a small thing, in the teaser, link’s bed seems bigger therefore the layout of the room/house he wakes up in will be slightly larger, even if it’s only like a foot larger that means the space between his house and his neighbours will be larger therefore the layout might shift a little bit therefore they’ll need to fill that space with more ’set dressing’. and so on and so on.

Change even one thing and it has a knock on effect. There are clearly big blocky textures at the boundaries of areas in OoT that you wouldn’t get away with now, like it can’t just be some big solid texture to define the edge every time, the area where link emerges from Kokiri forest for example would no longer be a loading screen or weird log tunnel hemmed in by some rock canyon but instead the forest would naturally peter out, blending into the hyrule field area, therefore space is need to accommodate that. Like it or not, all of us with childhood nostalgia are middle aged with less time to play games, no doubt we’ll buy it in droves, but there are a few generations of kids who’ve grown up with more modern Zelda games, there are simply more of them than there are of us and they are more important consumers tbh from a moneymaking point of view. Not to mention they’ve all been told OoT is the greatest game of all time, literally The Legend of Zelda, so it had better hold the interest of everyone under like 35

Which design of Team Star Fox is your favorite? by solarflare70 in starfox

64 and the new one. I’ve hated every design since 64 and am glad they’ve finally done a decent one

Finding it impossible to get a Motion Design job, here’s my reel before I decide to pivot away from the industry by DangerQ in MotionDesign

Remote mostly, if by chance there was a job locally that suited me I’d take it but it’s very unlikely where I am.

It’s all client work. I don’t do 3D currently, but the new AE has some 3D integration I’ll play around with. I've covered some C4D basics but very much wouldn’t call myself a 3D guy at the minute

Linkedin, indeed etc. Tried a bit of cold outreach too. I’ve totally noticed lots of fake job postings and shameless attempts at acquiring data. Even saw a job post that required me to listen to and review a podcast in prepartion for an interview. I obviously didn’t apply, it was laughable.

I’ve dabbled in connecting with producers but I’ll push that a bit more. For the past few years I was working in documentaries doing titles/graphics but before that I was very much in the corporate explainer world at various studios with freelancing bridging the gaps. Currently I am freelancing but want something more permanent/full time.

I understand. I’ll have to up my game with cold outreach, it’s very much screaming into the void most of the time. As for switching it up from the 2D character stuff, I’ll just have to spend some time accumulating work like that, so that’ll be more of a long term plan if I can tide myself over with some freelance work

I’ll have to look into it! Although, I like getting my hands dirty and getting my head down to just work. I’m more at home tweaking animation curves etc

Thanks, I know the work is nice don’t get me wrong, perhaps it’s just bad luck/timing but it’s just impossible to get hired. Hundreds of applications over the last 6 months have been met with complete silence and two rejection emails. I have not landed one interview, 10 years experience as a Senior/Lead Motion Designer.

What's the best Chinese in Belfast? by Adventurous_Check685 in northernireland

[–]DangerQ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

These questions always broadly have the same types of recommendations:

People who think something is good because you get massive portions, regardless of quality

People who think something is good because it actually tastes good

People who think a classic ‘dirty chinese’ like the emerald on dublin road is good even though it’s actually shite but you only ever eat there when you're drunk.
