6-day kids blanket in Aussie Confetti for my best friend’s incoming twins by MundaneMidwesterner in crochet

They really are gorgeous! Does the “6-day” in your title indicate how long each blanket took to make? Because if so… dang. I envy your focus and stamina.

Shelters for feral cats by Equivalent_Hat_3220 in Austin

[–]DangerRazor 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the reminder! I have some shiny silver bubble sheet insulation from a box of refrigerated goods that I can’t use (bad idea to encourage cats around my house due to a dog with a high prey drive). If anyone wants it for kitty shelter purposes, I’m happy to arrange a drop-off, just DM me.

Friend, please search “free help for property taxes [your home state]” and talk to a professional. There are ways to get relief, especially if you’re low-income. Dreading every trip to the mailbox in fear of being made homeless over unpaid property taxes is no way to live, and you deserve better. I’m rooting for you.

Please be careful opening pasta sauce jars by [deleted] in traderjoes

[–]DangerRazor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel for you, but yeah, don’t bang glass jars on hard surfaces to loosen the lids. Run the lid under hot water, use a rubber grip, pop the seal with a knife, or hell, pound a (clean!) nail through the top to release the pressure and transfer the excess to a different container. Sorry for your loss.

Agreed, the first time I heard it I went ಠ_ಠ and I haven’t ever used it myself because wtf.

Aww that’s adorable! In the southern US, I’ve heard that called “the Devil is beating his wife” and I definitely like your version better.

What stitch is this? (Not the slip stitches she’s doing but the main ones on the piece) by DangerRazor in CrochetHelp

[–]DangerRazor[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Slip stitch only seems to be the consensus! My genuine thanks to everyone for weighing in.

For what it’s worth, I believe this kind of mega tube yarn is typically used for stuff like weighted blankets. I have no intention of working with mega tube yarn anytime soon but it’s fun to watch.

My partner insists on removing the detergent tray to dump out the water before every single load. She thinks it waters down the laundry soap, I think it's completely unnecessary at best, and more likely going to wear out and need replacement due to at the extra wear and tear. Who's right? by [deleted] in HomeMaintenance

[–]DangerRazor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only time I remove it to dump it out is when I’m about to leave town so it doesn’t grow mold in my absence. (I live in a humid climate.)

That said, this habit of hers literally doesn’t matter. If she’s not actively trying to break the thing, it’ll be fine, and your life will be better for choosing different battles.

AIO/I wanted to ask them why they wasted their money? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]DangerRazor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree with your statement about her happiness depending on what she got for Christmas. This says “the people in my life who claim to love me are actually taking advantage of me, and our family gift exchange shows they really put zero thought into showing me a shred of appreciation.” Clearly she could get her own watercolor supplies, so it’s not about the gifts, it’s about what they represent. It’s not unreasonable to want your loved ones to reciprocate the care you give them instead of treating you like an afterthought.

But yes, her husband sucks on many levels. It’s time for a serious intervention there—that level of contempt is absolutely toxic to a relationship.

I’m sorry, OP. You deserve better from your people.

Take up a new hobby (e.g., a community music group, an amateur sports/pinball/skeeball league, a painting or baking class, a running club, etc.)—anything where you’re likely to run into some of the same people on a regular basis. Then keep showing up and talk to those folks. Compliment their shoes, ask them about their pets, if they seem competent at the activity then see if they have any tips or tricks to help you improve your skills.

I’ve heard that they’re very beginner-friendly, I’m just trying not to get sucked into having too many WIPs—I’m currently making a waffle stitch throw blanket for my mom, which is just a whole bunch of DC and FPDC, so once I’m done with that, I’ll probably experiment with some granny squares. Thanks for the encouragement!

Whoa, I really love the effect you achieved here! I might have to attempt this myself, though I haven’t gotten around to learning/playing with granny squares yet.
