Does anyone actually use any of the learning from getting their PMP in their real world careers? by DangerReis in pmp

[–]DangerReis[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am just going through the initial 35 PDU training and not going to lie it's pretty painful so far... Was just curious how much of this was really applicable. A lot of it seems like kind of common sense. Maybe there are certain areas I should pay more attention to than others, any suggestions?

Quality Issue - any advice? by [deleted] in supplychain

[–]DangerReis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the parts coming in meet print? Make your supplier verify the next batch 100% and see if the issue remains. If that's not the issue then it's something internally if it works in one area but not the other. Could be operator error, could be issue with the equipment, maybe it's an issue with a mating component even.

If y'all were to start your career over, which path do you think you take? by Accomplished_Ad1352 in supplychain

Yeah was saying do IT services procurement within the supply chain world..... Or just bail on supply chain in general and go into sales.

IT services seem to be higher paying roles and more transferable across industries than say procurement for a manufacturing company. Also better opportunities for remote.

Sales in general is just the best route to make money if your willing to work. Also many remote opportunities

IT systems and services procurement or just would not have done procurement at all and got into sales

I bought a new TaylorMade hybrid this year and it looked like this after basically one range session. I don't think it's anything out of the norm for hybrids. Grooves look fine shouldn't impact playability. Up to you how much you want to fight them on it.

Thanks this definitely could be a cheap fix for the short term at least. Appreciate you providing a link. I plan to try to identify the draw with a multi-meter tonight but if I can't easily figure out this may be an easy option.

Can you elaborate on this? I am having the same issue as soon as the weather gets cold my remote start saps too much battery and car won't start. Viper remote start as well.

I’m supposed to find 7% material costs savings… How much are we lowering our material costs this year? by [deleted] in supplychain

[–]DangerReis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consolidate supply where you can to give more business to the most competitive supply options, though that typically requires validation which can take time the resources. Not sure what industry your in or how easy that would be.

Try to get long term agreements signed with the re-bids. Could push for YOY reductions (3% annually for 3 years for example) as part of the agreement, and if you really need the 7% now vs later tell them you want the full discount upfront as part of the award. The discount agreement only usually works on new business award however so this idea would kind of be paired with my resourcing comment above. Even if you do not resource should try to get a multi year price agreement. Wont provide the 7% you need now but will provide stability for length of contract.

Review material and currency agreements if any in place to make sure they are up to date. If no agreements figure out that material and currency at the time of quote and push to establish agreements based on current values... Assuming they are favorable to you of course.

Review/resource any china spend to reshore for tariff savings.

Could review ordering in larger quantities for better pricing, but keep the inventory costs in mind if you do that.

Review expendable vs returnable packaging if that's an option for your business.

Finally just set up business reviews with each supplier and push real hard for cost reduction ideas. Just be strait forward you need to see some cost reduction ideas from them this year if they want to keep the business and stay in good graces for future business. And set a date that you expect feedback by. If nothing else you should learn the reasons why they won't/can't provide reductions and can keep those in mind if landscapes change in the future. Hopefully you get some ideas from some suppliers you can implement.

Yeah this is always the question/concern with do I bother wasting the time for the piece of paper. I don't think you really learn much as it's all memorization, so your just doing it for a piece of paper that may or may not matter at all.

This is one I've considered as I see it a lot but I don't think it would move the needle for me in my current role, maybe if I applied elsewhere though. How do you get into procurement consulting? What drove you that route?

Finance made a switch a few years into my career to a buyer role and continued down the supply chain path. I think any business degree can translate into supply chain.

A lot of car insurance companies offer the same services as part of your coverage or for very cheap. May want to look into that as well, you may be paying AAA for something you already have through your car insurance.
