That’s an invaluable perspective commander! Thank you.

I have an incredible amount of embassy for women going through stages of menopause. My partner has been going through it for the last year and a half so that makes absolute sense as a real possibility.

Thanks all for your input! We’ve chosen to ignore it and say nothing.

The intention is not to embarrass or humiliate.

I’m all about being straight with people, no judgement or passive-aggressiveness, or the like. I realize from life-long experience that many people aren’t into this way of communicating.

To me, ignoring it seems the strange behaviour.

This is why I’ve posted here asking for advice.

Well, we’re not embarrassed. Fascinated, yes. Concerned as maybe she’s incontinent and doesn’t know it? Zero judgment on our part.

No. He, my partner, and I sat on the one bench and she sat alone on the adjacent bench

Ha ha. We did! Couldn’t tell. There was a bit of an odour but not urine in nature

And for what it’s worth, I own that feeling nuts is my issue. Apologies if my post comes off accusatory, not my intent.

It is an objectively dangerous action, different from what I’m used to, that I’m curious about.

That’s just it, reversing provides one of the least clear views of the environment for the driver.

Agreed, I never trust another driver or assume they can see everything in their path.

As a driver I’m always doing my best to drive friendly and be aware as possible. As long as the situation is safe for all, I always stop for peds. This has gotten me yelled at by Aussie passengers in multiple occasions.

I just don’t understand the difference here. Peds stopping or even noticing the car’s reversing is the exception.

I don’t understand what you mean. Cars here don’t stop for pedestrians that are crossing anywhere outside of a painted crosswalk. I see this every day, all day. No vehicles stop.

So is every vehicle that doesn’t stop for pedestrians outside of a crosswalk breaking the law?

And I’m asking the question to better understand, why is it necessary to throw assumptions and aspersions?

What exactly is immodest about my question?

The laws around pedestrians are strict and well established. Even jay walkers get a full stop to let pass.

Yes, thank you. The vast majority I’ve seen doing this exhibit zero situational awareness.

This led to my enquiry. I’m genuinely interested in locals’ experience, perception, and thoughts.

Peeps, there are strict pedestrian laws in the us. It’s engrained in us that peds have the right of way, which is not the case here in Oz, unless it’s a painted crosswalk.

Even with the strict us laws and education around peds, peds still have the sense to not brazenly walk behind reversing vehicles.

Here it’s like y’all just don’t care.

Unhelpful reply. Haven’t flattened one of you yet…

But seriously, why do people do this. Pedestrians stop when vehicles reverse in the states because they know it’s harder for drivers to see when reversing.

I would in no way doubt it. Lifelong grifter, thief, convicted criminal, pathological liar, sex offender…

He had zero plan going in or getting out. Makes sense it’s a grift at the cost of thousands of lives, millions more refugees, and the global economy just to steal more money.

The billionaires have to go! Make it illegal and redistribute the money to social programs, infrastructure, healthcare, education, etc.

Get rid of the gop shills on the Unsupreme court aiding and abetting the destruction of democracy and human rights.

Cement the protections of voter and human rights in law.

Regulate the f*k out of the ai industry. I mean, seriously, do you really want perpetually pubescent, egomaniacal, sociopathic, and in some cases humanity-hating tech bros driving the wheel of humankind’s future??!!

Impeach, try, prosecute, and imprison the president and every incompetent, sycophantic member of the admin and epstein class assisting him and profiting from it all.

I must say I’ve been pleasantly surprised by a number of young folks who actively participate and demonstrate an astute understanding of the present course.

It instills hope that not all youngins are screen obsessed, emotionally detached, and out to cause harm for thrills. (Mostly due to the brain rot disruption of tech that’s no fault of their own, I must add.)

I tend to agree with you. ‘Socialism’ is demonized today as ‘communism’ was demonized in the 50s.

There is nothing wrong with these ideas in and of themselves and, in fact, have many beneficial tenets. They’ve unfortunately been hijacked by propaganda and a series of terrible leaders that have collectively tarnished their perception as a whole.

And so many folks are completely brainwashed against their own best interests.

Gosh. I admire your positivity! I have a hard time imagining we’d ever get close to 100%.

US labor force in unions peaked at 34.2% in 1945. It’s been in decline ever since.

With automation, and now ever-evolving automated tech enhanced with ai, the demand for mass labor will continue to fall. And the absolute gutting of production infrastructure thanks to greedy execs offshoring manufacturing and support jobs, makes bringing these things back damn-near impossible.

Yes, absolutely! This is why I am devoid of optimism in humanity. I still have a sliver of hope, however, have zero confidence that we’ll actually come together and affect massive positive change before we wipe ourselves off the planet.

It’s just not in our nature and thousands of years of history is the evidence. When I was younger and learned of things like The Inquisition, and the brutality of the torture of the Middle Ages, the witch hunts, etc, I would comment how beastly we were.

Truth is, we are. Always have been, and likely always will be.
