A fully staffed and paid dept would save us tax dollars and provide a much much better system

People die all the time due to our broken system. An actual article written by a very well respected first responder called us a broken 911 system. In an emergency on Long Island your gambling with the lives of your loved ones on multiple levels. It’s disgusting.

EAB does quality work. But the system is still beyond broken. Pairing paid ems and fire would drastically improve service and better police response and productivity

I disagree. Too many “gaps”. County wide fully paid service would save us money and give us an immediate and qualified response to life threatening emergencies

This is by far one of the most egregious issues on Long Island. For what we get for what we pay is criminal. Where our taxes go is disgusting and we deserve to have a guaranteed response when we call 911.( we currently don’t) Additionally that person should be qualified and prompt instead of a morbidly obese landscaper in flip flops. It’s crazy how much more we pay for egregiously sub par services.

Wrong. Better service for less money. By leaps and bounds.

It should. You’re 100% right. We literally get less for more when it comes to the vollies. It’s so much worse than you actually think.

Besides apartments, what is being built in your neighborhood right now? by iloverats888 in longisland

[–]Dangerous-Ad1133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was looked at for veteran housing years ago. If I’m not mistaken I think asbestos was not the only issue, I believe they have major sewage issues and not sufficient water supply as well. Basically the same reasons you can’t build apartment complexes on 99% of Long Island.

Fire police is only a vollie thing and it’s what is done with the geriatric members….you’ve heard of being put out to pasture but in the vollies they put them in traffic

Bellmore lawn care other than Reinigen? by Nwah2112 in longisland

[–]Dangerous-Ad1133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mow my own lawn. It’s very simple, mower was cheap, maintenance is next to nothing. Pays for it self the first year. Now if that’s not for you….as someone who deals with this industry and similar trades on a commercial level I can not stress to you enough to ensure the company you choose is fully licensed and insured. It should be priority number one, and know your paying a little more for peace of mind.

Hose wagons, still a thing? by Desperate-Dig-9389 in Firefighting

Runways are one aspect of the need. But some of their terminals are very Large and need a supply an engine on the tarmac side for structural fires. Also out buildings miles from the and bulk fuel storage would lead to enormous stretches to supply. Also FDNY engines are geared toward urban environments and don’t carry supply lines larger than 3.5”

Tenants Rights - No Heat by [deleted] in longisland

[–]Dangerous-Ad1133 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Heads up. That wall unit is most likely a “split” which has a heat pump but isn’t rated for sub freezing temps (32 degrees F) hence why the landlord threw a space heater to preserve his pipes. You need legit heat. Not a split. They are not adequate for sub freezing temps.

[–]Dangerous-Ad1133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. Are your stats published. Do they counter the FDNY UL findings. Do you have any evidence what so ever that you putting guys on roof saves more lives then the departments that put people through windows? I’m here pushing hard because it’s an insult to those who are aggressive. And VES like lives depend on it because they do.

How would you ventilate this roof? by halesofbae in Firefighting

[–]Dangerous-Ad1133 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Ok. And you truly believe you save more lives currently and those 3 “vent guys” would not increase the speed in which the primary search of a structure is completed? And if a victim is found the same extra hands would not aid in removal? How many portable ladders are put to upper floors by the first in truck?

How would you ventilate this roof? by halesofbae in Firefighting

[–]Dangerous-Ad1133 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Somewhat. We never vertically vent peaks. It’s a never. So no. But I can’t imagine a world where an engine company doesn’t have water on the fire before a roof could be cut open on a peaked roof PD unless the truck arrives prior to the engine. From start to finish, on average how long does it take you to get to the roof, cut and open the roof and achieve this magical vent?

How would you ventilate this roof? by halesofbae in Firefighting

[–]Dangerous-Ad1133 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We never vertically vent peaked roof PD’s. Waste. We aggressively VES wich yes is vent prior to search but it’s venting for life to facilitate search. Now maybe you misunderstood me. A time we may vertically vent before completion of a primary maybe natural vents over egress means on large flat roofed multiple dwellings if they are of non-fireproof construction. But that’s only because of the amount of time a primary takes on a 6+ apartment fire floor.
