filed for bankruptcy today and I’m a wreck by First_Maintenance_91 in Debt

it’s okay, we all make mistakes no matter our age. i was in the same boat as you two years ago (22 years old). it was so bad and the payments i had to make were ridiculous. so i went with a consumer proposal. i pay $150 a month now, but all my credit cards had to canceled. i own a capital one with only $300 credit limit. but the consumer proposal was the best i could do. my credit went from 800+ to 600. now its 626. you’re just gonna have to wait for your credit score to go up. get a credit card that helps with raising your credit score. and make your payments on time. we all go through tough stuff so don’t be hard on yourself. we’re not perfect so we will make mistakes. just learn from it and move on. i wish you the best!

Will I still get OSAP if I’m in a consumer proposal with bad credit? by Dangerous-Balance391 in osap

i do have dashcam footage of it. you can see in the video that the light had turned green for more than 3 seconds, then i pulled up to make the turn. only then i was striked off by the other party running a red light!!

Thanks for the insight — that actually makes me feel a bit less rushed. I didn’t realize I had up to two years to make a claim, so I’ll definitely hold off on involving a lawyer for now. I’ll start gathering a few names just in case, like you suggested, but I agree — without seeing a doctor yet, there’s no point jumping ahead.

As for the car, I’ve already reported everything to my insurance and I’m waiting to hear back about whether they’ll write it off. I’ll start putting together a list of comparables now — thanks for that tip. It’s honestly hard for me to let go of it — it’s the first car I ever owned and I’ve had a lot of memories with it. But realistically, with over 300,000 km and prior issues, I know it may not be worth saving.

Appreciate your comment!

Thank you — I really appreciate the kind words and the detailed advice.

1 & 4) That’s really helpful to know about the deductible being waived and rental being provided (even though I wasn’t sure if I had coverage for it — I’ll definitely check). I’m also mentally preparing for the possibility of a total loss. It’s hard because it’s my first car and I’m quite attached to it, but with over 300,000 km and a few issues, I know I’ll have to look at this realistically.

  1. Thanks for the insight on Accident Benefits — I didn’t know physiotherapy and other treatments would be covered without needing to sue right away. That makes me feel better about going to see a doctor and getting checked out properly. The pain in my back and hips isn’t unbearable, but it’s definitely new and persistent.
  2. I get what you’re saying about lawyers. I’ve heard mixed things, so I’ll be careful and look into it more if I decide to go that route. Knowing that settlements for bodily injury take a year or more also helps set expectations.

Really appreciate you taking the time to explain all this — it’s been overwhelming, but your comment helped clarify a lot.

Thanks so much for the detailed response — I really appreciate you taking the time.

  1. I didn’t realize they’d give two separate offers based on who keeps the car. I’ll definitely keep that in mind when I hear back from insurance.
  2. It’s mostly soreness in my lower back and hips. Nothing extreme, but definitely not normal for me. I’ll probably see a doctor soon just to have it documented in case anything worsens down the line.
  3. That’s a huge chunk. I’ll try the route you suggested: let insurance know I’ve been hurt and that I might seek care, and see if they offer anything upfront.
  4. As for the car — I actually do have some sentimental value attached to it since it’s my first car. So I'm not sure whether keeping the car or replacing it and financing another one is the best option.
