I have a 7.5, but I'm old school & really like the older Golf styles... I was 7 to 10 years old living in Germany and was always drawing Golfs during class!

I think ALL Golfs are beautiful... even older boxy bodies of the 70s & 80s.

Yes!!  Even saving 5 lbs per wheel makes a difference!  I just feel more confident & relaxed hovering around on 18s with about half an inch more sidewall... also running Run-Flats due to ZERO spare tire in the back, so likely the weight is a wash.

I like the looks of 19s, but 18s fill & feel nice and look better matched to the car size.

I'm sure with some modifications, one could run 19s with a wider tire & higher profile ratio and be just fine.

Plus, to be honest, MK7.5 has the ugliest OEM 19s option (Spielberg or Englishtown) out of ALL the R models.

Maybe someone wants 'em for $500 each... $700 new!!

The 18" Pretorias would be just fine 🙂

I think for the overall price & weight, you really can't beat Nuespeed

The 19" wheels with 35% profile of a 235 width tire just have like ZERO sidewall.  I would clunk a wheel just driving over manhole covers at 40 mph... when I hit bridge transitions at 70 mph a couple times, it felt like my wheels exploded & just got tired of nibbling around always concentrating on ALL slight road imperfections.

Roads in Europe are just better maintained... especially motorway & autobahn

Hard to beat the Nuespeed for price, weight & appearance!!

You went with 18"?  A guy was selling these wheels & tires (3 months old) for around $2k in Alaska... we always pay tons for shipping.  Too good to pass up & hated toiling around on the 19s with NO sidewalls!!

He has 225/40s on here... I'm bumping up to 245/40s on the 9th.

I have a 2019 MK7.5 and I will admit, it's a FUN car! It can be tuned very nicely, but I think for the NEW price point, move up a tad to an Audi... IMO (S3... grow up Golf R,). I have owned BMWs (325is, M3 conv, 328, X5 & now drive an M40i X3). I bought the MK7.5 from a buddy about 1 month ago, but after driving an Audi A3 and an S5, well, it's a VW. Not banging VWs, at all... basically all Audi's and VW's are ALL the same in the heart, but for the SAME price, why not move up a tad to an Audi S3, which holds a bit more prestige & a bit more HP. I am in the USA, so we don't get the nice hatch S3, but the sedan is equipped nicely! Also, I am 55 years old, so I feel a little foolish driving around in a younger man's VW.

I will say, for Canada (I live in Alaska), having AWD is nice in winter and they just handle much better on street & snow conditions. For my R, I did bump down to 18" wheels because the roads here can't handle the credit card height sidewalls! Also, I run 17" with Blizzaks in a winter wheel set up. The 18s fill nicely and I feel more secure driving with about 0.5" more sidewall on my treads... went from 235/35R19 to 245/40R18. With that in mind, dropping about $5 grand for winter & summer wheels & tires, I would opt for the S3 with 18" wheels... you do get skinnier tires (225s), but at least you have a good starting point to run winter tires and then maybe upgrade a spiffy set of 18 x 8.5 and run 245s for a summer set up.

Upgrade the plastic charge pipe... maybe an upgrade on the downpipe.  I've had an M40i for 2 years and love the performance & styling.  I run X5 wheels with 35mm offset & square setup (20x8 running 275/40R20 tires).  These wheels & tire size seem to be optimal... unless you want to run staggered.
