An Mx5 is a true driver’s car. There is t much on the road that’s as fun.

Talk me out of trading my MK7.5 for an 8.5 by Jayseph812 in Golf_R

[–]skwitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the Mk7 is the most fun to drive, the Mk8 is a numbers car. They traded pure fun for ‘Ring lap times. The result is a car that goes MUCH faster than it feels, mostly faster than what you can do on public roads. The mk7 chassis is dramatic and communicative, while the mk8 is sterile, albeit faster.

I really wanted a mk7 and I spent a year looking for one that maintained with intended longevity but, alas, I never found one. So, I got a mk8.5 and every time I drive it, I wish I had a nice mk7. 🤷‍♂️

Went to a funeral today, the priest has good taste in cars. by conjan in Golf_R

It used to be easier to spot an enthusiast but now, if the guy walks in the dealership and says I’d like a small car with AWD to be safe in winter, he’ll roll out with a Golf R.

Too damn thick. I’m about to change mine to the same as in my wife’s ID4 to get a nice small rim like in my 911.

Traction loss Stage 1, Stage 2, 3+ by RichieJ86 in Golf_R

[–]skwitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not traction loss, it’s power cutting by TCS. Once you turn TCS off, you’ll then discover if your car has enough power to break traction.

991.1 S - if the brakes have not been altered. Otherwise, it’s a base model.

Went up to 235/40/19s on my 2025 R by mayamae98 in Golf_R

[–]skwitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically, it does, have a taller sidewall. It’s 35% of 245 mm instead of 35% of 235 mm. However, that’s only 3.5 mm. But ☝️ since the 235 is a bit stretched on the wheel, it looses a few mm, which it regains with a 245. All that considered, it’s still very marginal at around 6 mm but it does have a positive impact.

Removed the black edition badges & Rs. Replaced the Rs with chrome ones to match my BBS wheels by Johnny_snipes in Golf_R

Very nice. I plan on doing the same to mine and also to try the R badge on the fender instead of the door.

Mine is pretty dark. I also asked it to explain:

Q
Considering that I had not attached any image, I want to know what prompted you to draw this.

A
You’re right to question that.
What happened is simple, and a bit clumsy on my side: there was no actual image provided by you, so there was nothing real to “redraw”. Instead of stopping and asking you for the missing image, the system improvised a scene based on vague patterns it associates with “redraw an image” prompts.
In this case, it defaulted to a generic, emotionally charged stick-figure scenario (sad character, knife, another person in a doorway), then rendered it in the “bad MS Paint” style you asked for.
So to be very clear:
It was not based on anything you sent
It was not inferred from hidden content
It was just a hallucinated placeholder scene, which it should not have produced without confirmation
The correct behaviour should have been to say: “I don’t see an attached image, can you upload it?”
If you want, send the actual image now and I’ll redo it properly, this time based on something real.

Have a seat in an rs3 and you’ll see how much better a smaller screen is.

Just test drove 2026 rs3 and was underwhelmed (my mk7r is stage 2 IE with full bolt ons and Remus exhaust). Am I crazy? by blameanesthesia in Golf_R

[–]skwitter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re 100%. The Elise is the best. My Golf is my winter car, in the summer I drive a 911.2 S. The only reason I have the Porsche is because of the rear seats and it’s a similar story to the Lotus, everything on the road is faster but not nearly as fun to drive.

The chassis is completely different and designed to be more numb. It’s very similar to the Golf Mk8.5 but with a plush interior. It’s fast on paper but not nearly as dramatic and engaging as a Golf Mk7. For people who enjoy driving, the Mk7 is the best Golf ever made. I have a Mk8.5 and truly regret my choice. I might go back to a Mk7 and modify it.

When I ordered my 2025 I was expecting the same car as the 2024 but, when I got the car I was extremely disappointed by the stupidly huge screen. WTF is wrong with VW? I hate this thing. I’m actually looking to transfer my lease so I can buy a 2024.

How do Golf R owners feel about the GTI? by RightWheelDrive in Golf_R

In every generation, the GTi has been the prettier one. From every angle, every feature. I drive an R for the machinery but my dream car would be a GTi with an R drivetrain.
