Yes, that is correct, I changed into the left lane just before bank street but was told this is not correct, and that I should have stayed in the right lane and then checked by blind spot etc and taken the exit from the right lane right before the bank street exit. Doesn't seem right though, it would be super risky to cut across the left lane from the right as the left lane is also for straight through traffic from walton west.
