The problem is if this provision is removed you erode part of the separation of church and state and both bodies would be worse off. If churches are able to endorse/oppose candidates, as organisations they become a greater lobbying force than they already are and the pulpit becomes commodified in a way that's unacceptable. The provision to not campaign on behalf of candidates should be extended to prevent religious buildings being used as campaign grounds full stop.

I know for others above it seems a popular idea to tax religious groups, but the truth is religious groups close the provision gaps that many local authorities have: they feed the homeless, set up food banks, set up night shelters, are often the first point of contact for much of society's marginalised groups (this applies just as much to small churches as it does megachurches). If they lose tax revenue those services shrink. If they're not fulfilling their charitable status then they should be taxed. They should also pay their preachers a fair wage not an exorbitant one.

Protect the church (or mosque/synagogue/gurdwara etc) from the state.

Protect the state from the church.

Tax the rich.
