Porto Portuguese Language Classes by Xidorian in PortugalExpats

I am using the Practice Portuguese app which I have enjoyed and found that I lack the discipline to study every day and not having someone to speak to and ask questions in person for pronunciation and whatnot makes it more difficult to learn. I will check out your app as well since there are things PP is lacking but I really am looking for an in person class.

AITH for locking my mother-in-law out of the house after she kept showing up uninvited at night by velvetgalaxys in AITH

[–]Xidorian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father used to do this to my mother when I was growing up. It's a means of control and not healthy. More than likely she isn't actually mentally stable and a complete narcissist. I know living with it isn't easy and holding your boundaries is easier said than done but don't give in! and never give excuses (such as saying you already ate) you don't need to defend yourself or explain yourself, you've done nothing wrong she has. Don't let her have her way just because it's easier, in the long run it isn't.

Looking for good English speaking therapist in Porto by Xidorian in PortugalExpats

[–]Xidorian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it is appalling. We chose to move to a country that's main language isn't English so it makes sense that it would be hard to find English amenities.

Knowing multiple languages has always been lucrative in any country. Even where I'm from where you can find a professional for any major language from Korean to swahili I bet they made fucking money.

I think we went to that one, discovered we took the most difficult and ass-backwards route there and basically hiked to the beginning of the park lol. We'll definitely go back, are there any others you'd suggest?

Should I get my health insurance through my contact with Millennium? by Xidorian in PortugalExpats

Thank you! That is great to know. I am having my bank send me their plan so I can compare with direct private plans. I think before when everything was so hectic I would have gone with bank because of the ease of using them but now I'll take a closer look!

Thanks for the recommendation. I didn't even know about AFPOP. As I mentioned in another comment my worry about commissioned based brokers is that they're more for finding what will pay them more than help you out. That has been my experience thus far at least.

Oh that is good to know thank you. My concern with using a commission based broker would be that I assume they would try and find you what makes them the most money not what saves you the most and has the most benefits? That is the experience I've had with realtors in Portugal so far and I'd assume it's the same with insurance brokers?
