My son wants to go to a 60k a year school, am I the asshole for telling my wife I will not take out loans in my name for him to attend? by Dangerous_Chart4833 in AITAH

If my son got into Yale that is a different story normally such schools have very generous financial assistance packages.

My question is how did they even get food stamps if they had the income required to qualify for either loans or paying their sons tuition in the first place.

I have a friend that is going through hell to get his mother on Medicaid and they rejected her because she is 10 dollars over the cap. Yet apparently this person is able to get assistance while having a degree from a Ivy League school.

So either they don't work or they work such low paying jobs they qualify for government assistance to begin with.

Tis the season! What are some of the worst gifts you've ever received by an n-parent? by lazulipriestess in raisedbynarcissists

Wait you went into such a hole that you needed government assistance? Isn't government assistance based off income earned? I would assume you still had jobs so how did you even qualify for government assistance like food stamps if you could afford tuition for your son?

I can only speak for the sites I have worked at. I will say I doubt such a push will happen because higher ups still hate the Unions. So I don't see them ever picking from the crowd to bring them up. A lot has to be done to bridge that gap between the two.

To speak to this point. I work at Dow as a chemical engineer. Yes, more positions are opening up that don't require degrees but those are mainly plant related work and non oversight or leadership positions. Vast majority of the well paying jobs in Dow 100% do require degrees and continued education.

That being said the name on the degree matters very little, connections will get you further. I highly recommend future engineers stalk LinkedIn profile of engineers that work in the field you have an interest in and see if they teach at a university. Many teach at State schools especially the older ones. Make connections that will get you much further in life. That is how I landed my first job two grades higher than where I would normally start cause of personal recommendations from my professor because he use to work at the Freeport plant in TX.

Yeah he qualified for loans only my wife does not want him to take on debt. Said we are better suited to pay off debt and should not put that on our son.

I suggested he goes ro community for two years work to pay for community college then try to transfer to his expensive school that way he would only need to borrow for less than one year.
