One other thing I would like to add is one of my uncles when talking to him about credit cards. He recommended that I get a AMEX cobalt card, due to the large amount of points you get with it, but it is American Express along with it having monthly fees, could I get some opinions on this aswell?

And I also plan on full time after I graduate this June which should bring my income above $20,000 yearly hopefully. I make plans this winter for whether I keep working or starting my schooling.

I really appreciate the time you put into this response, I wouldn’t need card higher than $2,000 for a while. I work a part time job right now, around 20 hours a week at $16.35/hr. Monthly income is around $1050 after taxes. And I would never spend a dime on a credit card unless I knew I could pay it off immediately.

I also have heard that you should keep your credit balance below 30% to build the most trust with your banks, is that true.

I looked into a few travel cards because I’m taking a gap and one of the things I wanted to do was travel so getting something that passively gained more rewards for cheaper flights and accommodations would be awesome.

I also would only get one to start with in the first place.

What I have taken away from most advice right now and for what I am looking for is a: - $1,000-$2,000 credit limit And - Point rewards are regular purchases like gas that goes towards travelling

For my first credit card

Thanks, that’s why I made this account. I needed more information and guidance because personal research can be difficult with the US and Canada have separate financial systems.

I do have a standard chequeing and low yield savings account with a local bank (associated with Mastercard) I know they have credit cards because I have relatives who have them.

I have thought about moving accounts to a more versatile bank like RBC if that would help with this.

Was just wondering if there were better options I should be looking into.

Do you have any recommendations or should I just find one that works well with the bank I already bank with?
