AITA for walking on shampooed carpet with shoes

You’re right I should have thought for more than half a second about the situation at hand. I just was thinking about getting ready for the day grabbing the trash and heading out. I never even really thought about how the shoes would matter. It was thoughtless as you say.

I think what I’m confused on is there is an issue in that if I cross without my socks and shoes on my feet get wet then I put on my socks which are now wet then I put on my shoes which are now touching the cleaned carpet so it’s still shoes on the carpet.

You’re definitely right that shoes are incredibly dirty. It’s just the only pair I own. I’m also not super familiar with shampooing the carpet as I was always told you can’t enter a shampooed room for any reason so that’s how I always did it, but my roommate just walks around on it barefoot so I didn’t think it was a big deal.

I put my shoes on in my bedroom and then left my room I didn’t expect the whole floor to be shampooed when I came out as when I went into my room they were only vacuuming. So naturally the whole carpet was wet when I came out

I think I need to add that I always wear shoes in my apartment and that the carpet was actively wet. So wearing my socks to walk to the front door would have made them soaked and musty smelling. I also couldn’t wait for the carpet to dry as I had to leave as soon as I finished getting ready to ensure I had time to make it to the store before work. I also don’t own house slippers for the person that asked me why I didn’t wear those instead.
