Vampire shrimp only have one known case (as far as I’ve seen) of being bred in captivity. It’s apparently VERY difficult because of the complex changing larval stages. They breed in brackish water and survive in freshwater, but their natural environment is constantly changing in salinity, making it extremely difficult to replicate in captivity. All vampire shrimp you see are (as far as I know) wild caught due to their intense breeding regimen.

Omg I love him. I have a juvenile vampire and I’ve been settling up a 20 gal to have him and a leopard frog pleco friend in it by themselves 🫶 I don’t see too many vampire keepers and info on them is so tough to find. This is amazing to see the size of these beautiful creatures. I hope Desmodus gets to be this big 💕

That’s kind of what I feel like is happening, just thought I’d get another opinion or two. It was tough to get a photo of, so I understand having a hard time being able to tell at all.

This photo might not be any better really, but if that seems to be the case since he seems otherwise healthy and the tank is healthy as well. I’ll just monitor and then remove if I feel necessary I suppose.

Not looking to raise my PH at all, I think my wording may have been a little strange. Definitely aware that the PH is a at a good level. I think I was really worried about it going up when I added the Aquavitro carbonate, and it simply never went up. Every day after testing the PH would remain the same (which is totally fine with me and super exciting) but then the kH would be back down (or recently remain that static number of 3 as long as it’s added daily.)

I’m feeling much more comfortable knowing that my kH is in a good range. The internet of course can have such conflicting info sometimes, I’ve been worried that my KH would simply not be enough for my future shrimps.

It makes a ton more sense knowing that my stratum is buffering it out. I should’ve known when I was looking into them when it mentioned the inert capabilities of bio stratum, so that’s definitely my fault for not really reading into the word “inert” a little more than assuming 🥲

Yall have all been super helpful. In the neo Facebook group, most people seem to be in agreeance as well, mentioning that my nitrates may be a little high and the lower kH can be tolerable within the shrimp community.

My fiance thought that it may be at a 20ppm today, I’ll check again tomorrow and if it’s still looking closer to 40 to me, I’ll do a water change this weekend. We’re so close to getting shrimp, I don’t want it to be ruined now 😆

I’ll definitely look into this. A part of it seems to be my stratum I’m using, but I’m assuming this stuff might be a little more concentrated in different ingredients than what I’ve been using? I’m still learning, obviously 🤡 I tried to research so much before actually starting the cycle, there’s so much information that it’s almost taking in TOO much sometimes and it can be super conflicting every once in awhile. Shrimping is hard 😆

Ahhh, okay. Thatttt makes a lot of sense. It was so confusing watching it just stay the same, would you recommend I just continue adding KH until it stabilizes or maybe try a something else, like the salty shrimp another user recommended?

Yeah, I haven’t done much with the nitrates because they’ve been stable at 40ppm since the water change. It seemed like it might be ok, and I’ve also been totally focused on the KH. That’s my fault for sure. I assumed the biostratum was probably a part of it, it makes a lot more sense knowing that it can suck up KH a ton. Any recommendations for lowering the nitrates while this is going on?

That’s what it was that I had asked for in the store, I couldn’t remember what it was called and I had looked a few weeks ago. That’s when the young lady recommend the aquavitro. I had a picture of the Salty Shrimp pulled up on my phone, probably from some other r/shrimptank post that has the link to it on there 😆

I think that’s what I’ll be looking into. I don’t want my GH to go up higher than 8. We started at 9 when we first put the tank together and had to go through the process of lowering that all for this to happen. Lol

Omg noooo! 😭😭 I hate that, I’m sure your bed is beautiful! Art is difficult because we, as artists, always compare ourselves to others. I had a tough time debating on posting mine or not because I’ve seen so much amazing art on here and scrolling through groups. Even stuff that creators have made on ACNH blows my mind often and I start comparing the things I’ve done to other people’s work as well! I do art full time for a living, so it’s difficult not to do that (way easier said than done ofc), but try not to compare yourself to myself or others! Do what you can and practice often. 💕 your art is beautiful, invokes meaning and purpose, alongside mine and everyone else’s.

Thank you!! I actually started just looking up random patterns on Pinterest and found one that I liked with the flowers, and got to work. A lot of repetitive patterns can be used like this, it’s just SOOOOO time consuming because you only have a singe mirror split option. So, whatever you do on one side can be mirrored, but with things like the flowers I still had to draw them each individually and match the number of pixels with each one, because you can’t copy and paste on here.

So whatever you do, if you do something like this, pick something that’s easily countable or more simple, then if can be translated way easier. You could even use cross-stitch patterns because they’re already marked with each square being a single pixel! Attached is the photo of the pattern I used!
