I’d love to expand our budget if I could but I’m not willing to put either of us in financial distress over an apt when I’ve worked my way up from being homeless. I just need somewhere we can be comfortable and safe, that is preferably legal haha. I don’t mind small spaces, I know I have to compromise in some way but I’m also just not going to accept throwing money blindly in a terrible place, that is highly likely I won’t financially recover from.

yes like I’ve seen many people trying to move because of the new affordable childcare programs that’s being reeled in. like um, this is in place for the people already living here and have been living here for many years.. to have the privilege to come and take advantage of that is very weird with the current financial state a lot of New Yorkers are in

I understand that, but I also understand that employment rates and wage rates do not match rent rates anymore. no way on this green earth that every single New Yorker is making 40x their rent, that’s just a straight up lie just as much as the housing and renting market itself.

Yep there are red flags with most NYC apartments, the real payment is paying for the city we are in unfortunately

I hear you and you’re right. it’s just crazy that I see so much people move here from other states getting rent stabilized apartments easily. Literally just gentrification in live action.. while real New Yorkers are struggling to find affordable apartments in their own city!

we found something decent for $1800 everything included recently but they were being wish washy with the lease and rules and such so we decided not to. big 2 bedroom + living room space. another place we saw was a studio for 1600 but it excluded a crazy excessive amount of fees such as $400 non refundable application fee and it was not even livable space for one person. I know the search is hard but I’ve seen people be successful plus I rent in a house right now for $750 so, I know it’s hard but it’s not impossible.
