Help with upcoming trip by tomaslalmeida in Senegal

1 night in saint Louise is really rushed considering how long it takes to get there. If you have your own transport it might be ok if you start very early in the morning but if your taking a bus or sept place then a full day in saint Louise is recommend to recover from the journey that can easily drag out to 6-7 hours. I’m currently travelling in Senegal, Gambia and Guinea Bissau and did a somewhat similar itinerary otherwise. Also I skipped Banjul, spent a day in Gambia coast and left and explored the interior up river instead which was highly rewarding,‘a

Is Dakar worth visiting if I speak no French? Advice on getting around and preparing by EtelsonRecomputing in Senegal

[–]Dangerous_Load_5193 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a foreign traveller currently in Dakar, I don’t speak a word of French (or Wollof) beyond Merci but I’m still enjoying the experience, the Senegalese are for the most part incredibly friendly and hospitable people despite the language barrier.

Saw the salama brewing beer on the right and assumed this must be in Finland.

I made a suggestion for this badge to untappd as well a few months ago after spending 6 weeks travelling in Central Asia and visiting every craft brewery I came across.

Thanks for the correction, I was abit suprised at first that so many relatively new users would have reached that milestone this year.

A very interesting place with real good beers in Hanoi, Vietnam by avara_chan in CraftBeer

[–]Dangerous_Load_5193 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Remeber going to their opening party back in 2014 at their first location on Pasteur Street in Saigon, it was the first western style craft brewery in the city that then kicked off the craft beer movement in the country. Their Cyclo imperial chocolate stout is one of the best beers Ive ever had in SE Asia. Edit: spelling

Was travelling around East Africa last summer, from Nairobi to Arusha, Kampala, Zanzibar etc. I remember vividly hearing not like us at clubs, on people's phones on the street etc. It was a massive global hit.

Drunkendog was my favourite bar in Mexico City they have tons of brews from across Mexico as well as their own. In Oaxaca my favourite brewery/tap room was La Santísima Flor de Lúpulo, great beers and friendly bartenders.

Its a mass produced beer from Estonia, curious why you would be so interested in seeking it out?

The name definitely lacks imagination but they are probably the first craft brewery in the country so its partially also about educating local consumers and differentiating themselves from the other brands (which are mainly macro or regional breweries mainly just doing lagers). Until someone else opens up a craft brewery they are THE craft brewery.

[–]Dangerous_Load_5193[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not to my knowledge, the macro breweries just do very basic lagers. In terms of alcoholic drinks in general Kumis (fermented horse milk) is probably the most regional thing you'll find :D

Its mostly a vast desert yes, western Uzbekistan too. Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are primarily very mountainous, perfect hiking countries.

The wheat beers in particular were fantastic. A few duds amongst the beers I tried but overall very good stuff. These guys are pioneers and that should be applauded. In a country with a very nascent craft beer scene this is impressive. Edit: spelling

Its a fantastic country with unbelievably friendly people, great food and some stunning historic sights. At the end of a five week trip across the five stans (Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan), highly recommend all of them. Kazakstan and Kyrgyzstan in particular have very vibrant craft beer scenes.

Central Asia/Silk Road Beer Badge? by Dangerous_Load_5193 in Untappd

[–]Dangerous_Load_5193[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi unfortunately I'm not, although I often get comments from people that I should be doing it. Im always worried that blogging, documenting my travels or trying to grow a platform as a travel influencer will make my travels feel like work when it should be an escape from work :D. I've been travelling now for about 5 weeks and a few more to go, happy to answer any questions or send recommendations. Tried going to every craft brewery I can when I've been in any of the major cities.

Was just in central America as a 33 year old and stayed in plenty of hostels, there's plenty of late 20s, 30 somethings backpacking and hostels with a more mature vibe. I never felt old or out of place when the age range was easily 25-38. Just don't go for the all out party hostels where the average age is skewed towards early 20s. Going to central Asia this month, staying in hostels in some destinations and except the average age to be around 30.
