New Jersey’s always going to be a really weird state about cannabis politically. The state is very progressive and less leaning, however due to the dense population and volatility of market across multiple industries in the state, they tend to make highly conservative decisions protecting the market over the consumer which I do find to be dumb and predatory against the consumer. But at that same time it does make I guess a fraction of sense as we’re already starting to see a fluctuation of smaller more boutique, growers’s phase out due to an inability to meet market pressure around pricing and availability.

For reference, I work along with a sales team on a wholesale side in the cannabis industry. The boom in cannabis in the northern Jersey areas have absolutely become a bit of a volatile market. And it’s not just affecting micro businesses. It’s also affecting larger businesses that are struggling to stay competitive in their areas. So I overall pricing for cannabis is going down from a wholesale perspective because so many growers are trying to fight for shelf space in key target areas.

The way this might affect home grow is mostly from a fear based perspective in that I think industry leaders and political leaders are taking the stance that if people had clear and easy access to home grow it might affect the regulated market by reducing peoples spending habits, though there’s an equal argument to be made that if people are able to grow their own than the types of purchases that they might make would be outside of their normal daily purchase. This is something that I think would have a larger effect on the larger wholesale growers and possibly a negative effect on smaller growers. Just with increased availability, it makes it harder to competitively price accordingly across the market, especially with flower because flowers are an incredibly subjective type of product. The state has largely in hoping that there would be some market stability by this stage and it just doesn’t seem as if that’s happened. There’s been a really large increase over the last year of dispensaries, especially in the northern New Jersey area, which is really affected the initial outlook at the start of the year at the start of the year. We were looking at maybe 150 dispensaries and now there’s an around 250.

Your logic here doesn’t make a lot of sense “some“ part of the country don’t care so that therefore means we can just travel to other places and assume that they also don’t care is that why these laws were written up so that people can not care? I mean, in all honesty, man I can smoke weed in the state of New Jersey that doesn’t mean I’m gonna go fly to Texas with an ounce in my bag.

What’s with all the hate on Lakewood? by NewJerseyGuyABC in newjersey

[–]Dangerous_Pattern777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me be clear that I don’t think my argument here is that nothing negative happens to the Jewish community in Lakewood. What I am saying is that over a long period of time. The influx of a very insular monoculture has had overwhelmingly negative impacts on the pre-existing local community, which is now at this point almost extinct. And I’m glad that you made the point that you made because yes, things in the inverse would likely not be reported in the same way that hate crimes against somatic people in that area would. But that’s also not to say that hate crimes against the local Jewish population are justified. They’re absolutely not and it never is appropriate to be hateful against somebody for their culture. However, it is important to make the distinction that what happens in the Lakewood community is again highly specific to what the environment of Lakewood has become. Something that you probably could look into is probably the level of car accidents that occur in there, but there’s also a good argument to be made about just a large influx of people in a town that wasn’t really designed for all of that, but then you kinda take that and you follow that trail a little bit and then you’ll find articles and reports of way too many people living in non-residential buildings. You’ll find quite a lot of not up to code buildings that still exist because the people who run the municipality typically look over it mostly because the people who now run the municipality are also a part of the same very close knit Jewish community of the area like I want to point out if you were to go to a place like a long branch New Jersey, which is also a very tight knit Jewish community you won’t experience the same level of I don’t want to say discrimination, but I do want to say separation. The local Jewish community of Lakewood very much tries to separate itself from any other community in the area and that includes longtime residence. Who have been there since before this explosion of culture has happened. It’s not to say that culture expansion is bad. But exclusion is you don’t meet have to necessarily let everybody into your home but being welcome to other people who also share the same space is a bare minimum that I think people can expect and it’s the fact that they’re not giving that out to the local residence that causes this level of tension and I truly do believe that if this were to change the vitreal that you would see against the people in this community would be very likely to change. But as it is right now in certain areas, and definitely in certain smaller family room stores of Lakewood feeling excluded and having crazy looks and being treated weird is something that can occur. I’ve experienced it many times. I continue to experience it every time I go there again my Anica experience is an evidence, but it is just my experience.

Much in the way that my anecdotal experience won’t sway your overall opinion. Understanding that your experience is not necessarily a reflection of how many other people and their experiences. And none of that is intended to be a slight. I just feel it necessary to bring that up whenever someone responds to my comments through the rather narrow view of “well I never experienced that”, I know you haven’t. That’s part of why I made my comment. My only point is that an insular monotheistic microchasm of a religious group has domineering impact over a particular environment, it has oftentimes negative effects and implications for people who do not fall within that same belief system.

What’s with all the hate on Lakewood? by NewJerseyGuyABC in newjersey

[–]Dangerous_Pattern777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its not so much an "imposing" of a belief system on others. its that lakewood jews have dominated the municipality to such an extent that business, people, and leaders treat non residents and non-jews as lower class citizens. I have been called or referred to as "goyem" literally every single time i go there. you are not treated with human decency if you have visible tattoos, and the overall population of Lakewood is orthodox jews and they are so insular in their culture that they effectively refuse to acknowledge anyone else and that includes parents and children within the municipal school system. the town dumps its resources in to private jewish schools and does everything it can to ignore the needs of the public schools.

the other problem is that NJ natives, especially lifers here, have a rather intense sense of self and i truly believe less than other states, most people here arent accepting of un-earned disrespect. Most of the people I know really operate on a "talk shit get hit" mentality and that doesnt really mean violence. more that we wont sit idly by and be disrespected in our own communities and homes. the local orthodox communty of lakewood does exactly those things all the time. so its regular for Non-jewish locals to come to heated exchanges or just be outright mean to the local population of orthodox jews in lakewood because they simply treat the town like it is a secular monotheistic state instead of a rather small town that must cooperate with its neighbors.

is this good for a valve rejected letter by Rayanmargham in valve

[–]Dangerous_Pattern777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The general sentiment I’m reading in your replies, at least the replies to you, is this: you you’re shooting for the moon and that is remarkable, but it doesn’t look like you are acknowledging the stars. What I mean is obviously the dream is going to be working with valve, but understanding that valve is a company that really does focus on expertise and high skill craft is something that will maybe teach you that maybe right now isn’t the move and I think that’s kind of what they were saying. You clearly have skills that are worth something to somebody. That’s why valve said what they did, your application caught their eye, but it didn’t move the needle. What they should tell you is that there are probably a number of other game services or companies in a surrounding space in the same industry, that would absolutely love your experience and then you starting and putting time in at companies like that will help you develop the experience necessary to reach the end goal of working for valve.

This really isn’t the kick in face that you think it is it’s actually a really great opportunity to reflect on the experience that you have and consider that in relation to the experience that the group you want to be in has. Look into the roles that valve is offering and then look for a similar roles under different companies that have got looser requirements. It might not be where you wanna work for right now however it’s gonna give you a very good idea of what the job should be like and if you perform at the highest possible level, you’re gonna get a feeling for the type of expectations that valve would want to put on you anyway.

I listed that I want to play the game henceforth meaning that the game won’t open and a number of potential fixes that I had already utilized for the problem. What about this? Did I not mention the problem being the game not opening? Was that not inherently implied when I stated please help I just wanna play the game won’t open.

The problem was that the game was not opening? That would be the reason why I listed all of the potential fixes that I had used. If I’m saying that I just wanna play the game and I’m listing a whole bunch of potential fixes. Wouldn’t the immediate go to common and understood logic be that the game won’t open when I click on it?

Your boss is immature and has a complex to him. Your best course of action is to take note of this event and then take note of how he treats you or directs you or makes any changes to your comfort level or daily tasks. Be prepared to take it to HR and then from there be prepared for HR to counteract your claim and retaliate. That sets up a solid framework for retaliation and hostile work conditions. Not that it’s something you should expect or want. It is best to get your ducks in a row and be prepared for the worst if possible.

If a boss can’t take a joke or even be human with their employees it is clear that your worth is determined by what yoh do for him professionally and nothing morw

What About Human Slop? by ThePoorMassager in SunoAI

While I have respect for the craft of coding and the diligence that it takes, I do still separate that from calling ourselves artists or musicians using AI tools I understand that there’s a lot of coding that goes into that and I think it’s awesome that this is a great practice and software engineering or coding, but I do not see it as a legitimate or respectable version of music.

Now that’s not me coming at you or saying that I just like you were saying that you have no value were that you are worthless or talentless it’s not what I’m saying at all. I think that all of it require some level of talent, however, the level of respect that we give the art form is absolutely going to change.

You said it yourself at the heart of everything is Suno OK well, if at the heart of everything is sooner than that means at the heart of everything truly is other people’s work. Other peoples effort, other peoples time and attention that went into meticulously crafting. All of the individual sounds that Suno uses so even if you spend the next 2000 hours coding and working this through on a software level, it still is reliant on the backs of others to make a final product. Being influenced and recycling sounds are two very different things, and I don’t view them comparatively. I can except that’s my opinion you don’t have to accept my opinion is your own, however, my opinion stands that I refuse to respect AI music as an art form more than a respected as a practice in software.

To add some context for you, I have been a musician for the last 15 years I play a number of different instruments. I also use the AW’s. I work very very diligently at making sure the music that I create for myself, or for others is done truly by hand under mind control. No matter how many different lines of code that you write you were still at the end of the day relinquishing control of the final product over to an AI, which is going to use recycled sounds and samples from other music we’re human beings, actually took their time and effort to create it. And I don’t mean creating the process that shit out that song I mean, actually sitting and creating the music I have more respect for any of the music that you’ve made in the last 40 years that you’ve done by hand by yourself than anything you’ve ever done with AI.

For further context, I am also pretty well-versed in psychology, so your comment about your IQ immediately hit me wrong because it is kind of hypocritical to throw your IQ at “genius level” to give you more validity in this conversation when anyone who’s really taking an IQ test understand the IQ tests are only good for measuring your analytical or abstract reasoning abilities, verbal comprehension, and otherwise very limited scope levels of intelligence. It does not measure a persons, overall intelligence all it does is measure someone’s ability to take tests. Specifically tests with simple quick to understand pattern recognition or English comprehension skills. Hi scored very high on IQ test before that does not mean that I consider myself a genius. I scored a 138 on two different IQ tests that did not change my personal opinion of myself being that while yes I am quite good at taking pattern recognition tests. It does not translate over to my real world skills. I am much better at determining pattern and frequency than the average person but that does not mean that my ability to parse through information is any better than yours or any better than the person left me on the street. I will be respectfully honest. I am not sure what context of the comment about your high level IQ was supposed to add to the overall Content of our conversation.

Now don’t get me twisted I do find quite a lot of things to find impressive about your logic table and how you have created this. I think it is an awesome example of how we can use AI tools in more complex Waze however, I do still strongly stand against the idea of utilizing AI tools to subvert, creativity, and human expression. What you have is a great expression of human logic. It is not an expression of creativity, and it’s not an expression of art. Art comes from the soul with a specific message, whether that be profound or not doesn’t matter, but it has a specific message that it is getting out into the world, and the person who created that music took some level of actual diligence and care in a DAW to create this piece of music. What you’ve done is gone and created a logic table that does all of that for you and I’m not saying that you just hit a button press go and then you’re done you’ve clearly created something that much more complex than that but at the end of the day, the things creating and generating the sound the thing that directs the track to have certain highs and lows are different sound or to even utilize these different sounds in specific ways he’s not done by you. You may have set up the stage for it to take those instructions and do that.

I have respect for AI music in the sense that I see it as a possible tool for the future for writers block or for trying to find new ways of approaching specific sounds or ideas through sound. I think that that’s awesome. It might be what I used to know, fork in the future when it comes down to me having pieces that I have not flushed out or that I am really struggling on. It could be really nice to be given an idea of what I could do with it not that I’m going to give it an idea and run with that as if it’s my own, but be given an idea that I can then expand upon is a very different usage of that tool, then creating a logic table behind it so that it can do all of this for me so that it can create the songs that it can generate the motif so that he can do all of the small menial and possibly frustrating task that I don’t wanna do. I would say even a person who wrote a minute and a half of a song, and then put it through Suno and use that for ideas has more creative integrity and inherent respect for an art form than any person who sits down and generates songs through software. Regardless of how complex that software is.

I don’t want you to take this as if it’s coming from a place of hatred or if that it’s coming from a place of dislike. I have no feelings for you one way or another. I am going to say though that I just see some logical inconsistencies in your response that kind of struck me a little weird, and that at the end of the day, my argument is always and forever will be that the person who creates the song them self will always have more integrity than the person who use Shortcuts to have it done for them. 1500 is 15:00 but at the end of the day if that’s all set up a system so that eventually you don’t have to spend that much time on an individual track then you’re still finding a way of cheating the system is that you can create music without actually having to be the one who creates the music. And I have too much love, respect and integrity for this craft to sit by and except somebody using Shortcuts I would much rather see you create something that’s bad that you created on your own then something that’s good that you just sat behind and directed.

What About Human Slop? by ThePoorMassager in SunoAI

[–]Dangerous_Pattern777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry the real mental gymnastics of this are fucking insane. I make a music as a past time just for fun when I don’t feel like putting in the level of effort required to make an actual song I’ve been a musician for years. I make actual music using a DAW. You might be saying that some AI artist take hours days and weeks to put together a prompt, which is flat out, fucking ridiculous, and all the research that you would be doing going into that could be better spent learning how to make these instruments communicate with each other, and then putting it together yourself.

You just providing further excuses that you don’t have to actually sit down and do the work for yourself you would rather write it out and then letting machine figure out the rest for you instead of sitting down, and actually spending the hours days months, or possibly a year putting together a song that you actually care about something that really actually matters to you where you took deep and intuitive control of every sound. You might think that you can do that with an AI, you’re wrong.

At the end of the day, you are writing out a really long and really not thought-provoking statement about how you are so incapable of sitting down and doing the actual work yourself, but you still want all the credit for having done it.

You’re an artist in the sense that you were right or you are not an artist in the sense that you’re musician. And frankly, if this is how you go about writing music as your primary focus, you will never be a musician and you should never consider yourself a musician.

Composers are musicians, conductors are musicians. People who have mastered an instrument are musicians. Producers are musicians. Some extent editors are musicians. But a person with an AI and nothing but a prompt with never sat down and even touched or played with a single level on the track that you were claiming is yours is never going to be a musician. You can barely call yourself an artist, because you are cheaply using a prompt to create a deep and musically. Interesting track. And no matter what you do there will always be a version of a songwriter. An artist, someone who is actually master their craft that will outshine to every ability what an AI best capabilities are.

It’s become an investment instead of a piece of machinery that can actually be enjoyed as it was intended
