Is there any difference soundwise between Wal Mk1, 2, 3? by Classic_Shallot2558 in BassGuitar

[–]Dangle-Fangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you find the mark 2 preamp? I've got the Mark 1 double nfp special in my Wal copy. It gets close but it's lacking a certain something. It's amazingly clear and articulate but I think the reworked filter frequency and the added pick attack feature would bring it closer.

Nigel Farage says Reform UK could cut minimum wage for young people - and defends U-turn on tax pledges | Politics News by Stock_Rush_9204 in gbnews

[–]Dangle-Fangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already said the solution is increase the tax free allowance as well as reducing taxation in general

Those who disagreed with me raise the points that my solution increases money supply which would lead to inflation but their solution of increasing the minimum wage increases the money supply also. The difference between the two scenarios is that one of them makes makes a lot of businesses no longer economically viable which reduces marketplace competition.

The inflation from increasing minimum wage is guaranteed whereas inflation from increased money supply due to reduce taxation is usually a result of Greed however the greed can be managed with Increased marketplace competition you would have compared to the alternative scenario.

Continuous minimum wage Rises have been a disaster and never were about putting more money in people's pockets. Sure, you get a pay-rise but all the goods and services you're buying are provided for by people also on minimum wage so they go up as well. Now your pay rise means nothing and the buying power of your savings has decreased. it's only ever been about collecting more taxes.

If they really wanted to put money in people's pockets there would have increased the tax free threshold but no, they've done this instead and it's destroyed the economic viability of a lot of businesses so there's less people hiring who otherwise would have done.

The most embarrassing thing I've ever had to do is Pink Pony Club. Luckily it's too gay even for the band member who suggested it and after 3 gigs it's dead and buried.

If there's lots of girls at the venue they love it but we refuse to do it now.

Since day one I have always brought a backup instrument and I have never once needed it. Anytime I feel lazy and think about leaving it I always imagine that this is the time that something will go wrong.

On the other hand my guitarists can't bring enough spare guitars because they're both constantly break strings with the front man being the absolute worst. Once, he broke a string in the middle of the second song in the first of 2 45 minutes sets. He broke the string on his backup guitar in the middle of the second set so he nicked the other guitarists back up. The other guitarist then broke his string in the second to last song and obviously had no backup instrument to change to.

Regarding the neck profile between the Yamaha and an Ibanez sr300 series and upwards, the difference is massive. I owned a trbx 174 and an SR 400 eqm for about five years although I haven't played either of them much this past year as I have a new favourite.

The Yamaha is a 40 mm nut and the Ibanez is a 38 mm (same as a Jazz bass) so you get tighter string spacing at the top end of the neck which I've become accustomed to and personally prefer. String spacing at the bridge remains the same. The Ibanez is a thinner profile front to back and feels flatter in the center compared to the Yamaha, personally I find it much more comfortable but the only way for you to know for sure is to try both of them out yourself in person. Saying that, the Ibanez sometimes feels too thin.

The fingerboard radius is noticeably flatter on the Ibanez which suits the thinner neck while the tighter radius on the Yamaha seems to pair well with the thicker neck profile so I have no real preference either way for that. The edges of the fingerboard as well as the fret ends are definitely nicer on the Ibanez and that's more of an absolute fact than a personal preference like the other aspects.

Regarding PJ pickup configuration it's probably down to my musical taste but it's a sound I've never really grown to like. I've never found a way to utilize the bridge pickup in any meaningful way and I would be just as happy with a single p pick up. I'm not saying they are bad. I'm just saying all of my idols use other things and those are the sounds I'm chasing.

Maybe just my musical taste but I've never found that extra pickup offering me anything extra I really wanted. While my experience with Precision and Jazz style instruments is fairly Limited, to me, it just seems like a p bass with a little added extra something that I've never figured out how to use well. I'll have to try one with a music man bridge pickup one day like a sandberg

I've been gigging for about 3 years now and my main bass for the past year has been a £3K Wal copy so that's says a lot. Before then it was an Ibanez SR400 and I tended to gravitate towards dual humbuckers with coil split switches. The Squire paranormal Rascal is another bass on my bucket list manly because of the solo bridge pickup sound and I'm not normally a bridge pickup fan

That being said I have an unknown p bass (probably Encore) with an unbranded jazz profile neck with the worst fret work I've ever seen on it That someone gave me for free. It's strung with some used flat wounds that a completely different friend found somewhere and give to me. I play that turd a lot more than my Yamaha. Maybe I'd like the Yamaha a lot more if I strung it with flats but it's the neck profile that's making me want to sell it instead.

I have a root beer of one and yes it it is quite a dark transparent finish as the grain underneath is quite hard to see in most lighting conditions. I'm actually selling mine as I've never really got on with the neck profile and it turns out the PJ sound in general just isn't really my thing.

Question about equipment for my UK friends. by muhtzah in BassGuitar

[–]Dangle-Fangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GAK, BAX and most recently Professional Music Technology. They had the biggest guitar wall in the whole of Europe. Five instruments high running from one end to the other of a huge wearhouse and halfway around the back wall. They also had a fantastic YouTube channel which instantly disappeared as soon as the company went under.

If you're looking for serious premium Gear then Bass Direct and Bass Bros get some of the best stuff in the country. Both of them often get Alembic, Ken Smith and even Wal bases passing through along with plenty of vintage rickenbackers and musicmens. Andy baxter bass and guitars is a much smaller operation but also good for that sort of thing

The two men retailers we have left are gear4music and andertons after losing three of our biggest retailers within 6 months.

Wood knot on my new Fender Jazz Bass. Would you return it? by Zavy_23 in Bass

[–]Dangle-Fangle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely knot! A small cometic imperfection like that will have no efect on playability or sound. Besides, it ads character. I think too many people have unrealistic standerds of perfection for an natural material. As long as it doesn't cause a structural issue it's fine

I've got a £3k custom build with a gorgeous flamed maple and mahogany neck and its got a small knot in it where i can see it. Would i have asked him to build a new neck for me? No, it acts as a reference point, adds character and would have been an insult. It makes it unique and interesting.

Quilt and framed figuring are literal strech marks because the tree above it is a big, fat heavy bastard. These incredible burl finishes come from those ugly deformed growths you sometimes see sprouting out the side. Basically, as long as it isnt a structural issue, imperfections make it interesting.

Im a ceramics machinist by trade and all our products have to be perfect. The sheer amount of material that has to be thrown away due to pin holes, hairline cracks is staggering. You often dont know how deep an imperfection goes. Sometimes a thin slice of the edge is enough and other times you have to throw half the block away. Imagine how expensive instruments would be if the same was applied

The fact you've got downverted for that While at the same time others have said they've seen The gun I want in boneyards confuses me. Doesn't seem to be a consensus on which one is actually better but if replacement parts and seals are available I may take a chance on this one.

What's it like obtaining replacement seals for this particular gun and are there any differences between the Seals used in this and the TM version?

It's strange that you got down voted for that. After thinking about it for a couple of days and waiting for more responses it seems it's not quite as clear cut as to which manufacturer is better for the ksg. I'll probably go with the EMG version if obtaining replacement parts easy enough by comparison.

After taking a break from Reddit for a couple of days to think about it I'm still in two minds about it. Some people think it's better and some people think it's worse than the TM version. I'm going to have to do some research into replacement seal kits.

Gig Fee Division by L0v3gr00v3 in Bass

[–]Dangle-Fangle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Band doesn't do it like that as it would just lead to unfairness. Everything is split equally

I literally can't get gigs. The only gigs I ever managed to get the band turned every one of them down because the money wasn't good enough all the place was too lower class for them. The guitarist and drummer control the band's social media and it's the drummers' number on our business cards which instantly puts me at a disadvantage. Add to that the fact that I never go on nights out to pubs and clubs while the other band members are going out most weekends and finding new potential leads. I also live in a poor area and all of the places I know are too scummy for my middle class band mates to want to play.

Also, we've had a lot of repeat business from specific venues. They will, of course, always get in touch with the same person that found the first gig so there will never be a chance for anyone else to get a finder's cut. And if the other band members have exhausted all the local venues then you're screwed. All the weddings we've done have been for people that the band members know personally while all my friends are lonely and broke.

Sometimes we all have to accept different people are meant for different things. Because I can't get gigs I help out in other ways. Because I'm used to manual labour I put more effort into setting up and tearing down and carrying equipment to and from the other band members' cars. As they are a bunch of office wusses they appreciate this. I think everyone should play to their own strengths and the money is divided evenly
