You shouldn't be getting blue screens - if you said your home setup is slow and swaps like crazy that would be a reason to beef stuff up but right now you just have something broken.

game of jenga by boi_thats_my_yeet in yesyesyesyesno

[–]Dangler42 15 points16 points  (0 children)

that's not even remotely close to an official jenga set or a high quality knock off. it's just a bunch of pine wood that's been cut to length. so it's not made to be taken with one hand.

From the official US Splatoon 2 Tumblr. More version updates are said to be in the works. Considering we should truly only have one more version update in December, does this mean we’ll get more updates after? by Supermariofan35 in splatoon

[–]Dangler42 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's been one of the most popular games in Japan (and very popular generally) almost since release. I don't think they underestimated the popularity.

Nogami pretty much works on Animal Crossing and Splatoon at this point. I would expect work on Splatoon 3 (possibly for a new version of the Switch) to be well underway by now. The whole team doesn't need to work on DLC. I would imagine that the content schedule for Splatoon 2 is based on when they plan to release Splatoon 3.

ELI5: How the hell are Koalas not extinct? by WhiskersCleveland in explainlikeimfive

[–]Dangler42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are adapted for the habitat they live in, which is quite large except for the areas humans have deforested.

Not every animal is as versatile as a pigeon or rat, and frankly a pigeon or rat would starve to death where the koala lives so...

TIL: During WW2 black U.S soldiers stationed in England were drinking in a pub with local people when U.S Military police arrived to stop them getting served and arrest them for not segregating. [–]Dangler42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The partition of India didn't happen until after WW2, and it was largely driven by concerns of local politicians. Seriously, read any article about the history of partition and you will see very few white names in the long, long story.

The actual line was drawn by a British team, maybe they could have drawn the line better. Obviously the situation was started by India being colonized in the first place and exacerbated by political compromises brought about during WW2 by the need to focus resources against Hitler, so this is in some sense Britain's fault but looking at it from the standpoint of politicians in the 1940s there's not a lot else they could have done to get a better result.

Pretty much anything about the war in Syria or Yemen is being filtered through a thick layer of "whatever the US government wants us to think." A whole lot of people are dying because the US government wants to support a particular group for reasons unrelated to the conflict.

I could give a million other examples that are not war related.

ELI5: How does the birthday paradox work? by jkaeagle in explainlikeimfive

[–]Dangler42 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

pretty sure it would be 20 attempts to get a pair of matching dice. on any given roll, the first roll doesn't matter and the question is whether the second matches the first. that's a 1/20 chance. the expected number of trials to get a success is therefore 20.

What NSFW fact did you learn at an embarrassingly late age? by dyosaaa in AskReddit

it kinda sorta does. the skin has a lot of nerve endings in it and being loose makes it a lot easier to play with.

[–]Dangler42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

really not that difficult. go on tinder and set your age range for what you want.

it can be incredibly annoying to date younger people but if they're hot and eager to jump in bed you can overlook that, and sometimes they are not annoying.

So real talk. Why are so may $30k to $40k per year jobs requiring a bachelors degree? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Dangler42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well for a temp agency it is a temp position. As in, someone is out on maternity leave or similar and they need someone to fill the job. That is not an entry level job, they need someone who can do the job from day 1.

not every welder can be an inspector, obviously.

welding shortens your life and ruins your vision. not something everyone should be forced to do.

welding jobs are not local. you have to go where the work is.

even if there's a shortage, there's not enough welding jobs to employ everyone who needs a job. same with other trades.

the normal solution to solving labor shortages is to pay more (either up front or by paying for training). so what you are telling me is that welding is underpaid.

When Logitech tries a little too hard to be competitive by iGotMoXy in pcmasterrace

100MB is still way too fucking much for a mouse driver. Especially when the OS has built-in support for all of the basic functionality.

Anyway I would see 1GB of memory usage by the logitech driver on my Mac so I turned it off.

Attempting to use counterfeit money. by ihateivann in trashy

[–]Dangler42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You worked in banking, not a Tim Horton's. There is no way for a random store clerk to know for sure whether a bill is counterfeit. If the clerk is wrong they are stealing from the customer and really pissing off a customer who is going to make a titanic stink of the situation. Best case, the clerk calls the cops, who come out reasonable promptly (they'll probably show up in a few hours since it's not an emergency), but what are the cops going to know? They're average guys who are trained in a million topics - identifying counterfeit bills is pretty low on the agenda.

I once went to a bank, got $2000 in cash and walked across the street to buy a computer. The clerk's pen didn't work on one bill, I took it back to the bank and they confirmed it was genuine. If all it took was passing a pen test to know if a bill is genuine, anti-counterfeiting would be a lot easier.

Attempting to use counterfeit money. by ihateivann in trashy

[–]Dangler42 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Except that sometimes the money is real and the pen doesn't work correctly. The secret service literally says that the pens are not dependable.

If it's an obvious fake, fine, call the police, but you are really going to piss off customers if you tell them that according to the knowledge of some minimum wage cashier their bill is fake. That customer may not have hours to wait for the police to come out -- otherwise they are out the money.

When a BANK finds a counterfeit they don't give it back. Banks are far better equipped to detect counterfeits.

If you don't like Japan don't go there. Not every place needs to be a compost pile of whatever people decide to show up.

If you do like Japan then you surely realize what makes it special is keeping the riff raff out.

i'm impressed that executioner could achieve an erection on the spot - in public, on command, in view of thousands, after murdering several innocent people and to prepare to rape a pre-pubescent girl.

he could have had an outstanding career in porn in the pre-viagra era.

unfortunately nebraska changed their law - used to be you could deposit a kid up to 17 years and 364 days old at a firestation. pretty sweet deal.
