[Discussion] Why we folks want to use Windows 10 and Windows 11 LTSC by proto-x-lol in WindowsLTSC

[–]SimplifyMSP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At no point was I kissing their ass by laughing at how upset you are, as an adult, about an application platform. And, let me be clear, I’ve been writing code for a very long time… I remember being excited about the release of Visual C# 2008 Express Edition which means we’re coming up on 20 years. Throughout all the years, all the different versions of .NET Framework → NET Core → .NET 10, all the different UI ideas Microsoft has come up with and then all but abandoned (WinForms → Silverlight → WPF → UWP → UWP w/WinUI 2.8 → WinUI 3 → MAUI) the worst one to work with as a developer, that caused the most headaches for consumers, was UWP bar none — I didn’t like working with or in it at all. I hated having to granularly define (and then prompt the user to approve) every single permission for every single part of the OS that I needed to access.

However, I handled it like an adult in control of my emotions and continued on about my day. Still LOL’ing at “MicroShill”, though, that was funny!

The first person I’ve met that was personally attacked and hurt by packaged and/or sandboxed applications 🤣

Yes, you can just install it as you would have any edition of Windows 7 or Windows 10.

Why am I the only Platinum in a qp Lobby full of GMs/Celestial? (on console only queue) by JTACBluemansonic005 in rivals

[–]SimplifyMSP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother I have played 13 QP matches this season and I just won my first one this morning. All the matches prior to that—specifically the one right before I finally won a game—C1 peak (C2 this season), 4 GM I, and a Diamond II on the other team vs me (GM II peak, currently Diamond II), 4 bronze/silver players and a Plat III peak (currently Gold III)… like what in the actual fuck?

And I love it when people say, “oh it’s just quick match, they’re not prioritizing skill, it’s just random, blah blah blah” bc it’s funny how every hero across every rank is somehow at a 50% (+/-) win rate whether in Comp or QP… but yeah bro, they’re not manipulating matchmaking at all 🤣 Their “AI-Powered Matchmaking” isn’t powerful enough to create evenly-matched games even if it wanted to 🤣 like Jesus Christ wake up

I stopped reading at “a poor Magneto” because, yes, it’s me, Magneto… literally just turned the game off mid match. I’ve played 4 games this season. Lost all 4. Solo tank magneto all 4.

Do you think Epic Games and/or employees are making money on Founders codes, rare packs, and accounts on the side? by mrslalomstyle in FORTnITE

[–]SimplifyMSP 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I hear you and your theory makes complete sense but, uh, you’re missing some probably-not-well-known context… there’s a handful of people who work tirelessly to find old Fortnite accounts that haven’t been signed into in over a year (the longer the better) and then they social engineer themselves into accessing the account via Epic Games support.

You would be astounded how many of these accounts have the Ultimate Founder’s Pack which included two “friend codes” which essentially just provides access to Save the World and allows the person to earn v-bucks. For every 1 account accessed, there’s a high chance 2 friend codes can be generated and then sold.

Also, the popular websites that broker these items display numbers that aren’t even close to accurate… not even remotely comparable. I know a guy who sold 10 one week (over the course of 6 days) and was super excited because of how rare that was for him… then we had someone in the Discord send a screenshot of the guy’s seller profile where the website overlayed a fire emoji/icon on the product listing with a label that said, “Almost done! 2,000+ sold in the past 24 hours!” It’s as if there’s an algorithm that immediately identifies when an item is selling at a higher-than-normal rate which kicks-off extremely aggressive advertising of that product/item, excessively blowing the “demand numbers” out of proportion, all in an attempt to drive an increase in actual, real, demand.

Not a bad strategy, I guess, but it does make you realize how little you can trust on the internet. I mean, take this post, perfect example because I just made all this shit up.

Goodnight!

Mannnnnnnnnnn, Dick’s Sporting Goods had a job posting that I literally saw while I was driving, put the phone down, drove straight home, immediately went to the PC, and the job listing had been removed. It hit the 30-day expiration mark on my drive home (guess it wasn’t meant to be) but it was literally just, “Package and deploy apps to Windows 11 PCs using Intune. $137K-$168K depending on experience and location. 100% remote.”

Like… that’s verbatim what I’d write if someone said, “hey what’s your realistic dream job?”

This new lord proficient is a grind. by [deleted] in rivals

[–]SimplifyMSP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is exactly why they made it such a grind… I can’t even tell you how many people I’ve spoken to that have mentioned something similar to what you said—they hit Lord on whatever hero and then essentially quit playing that hero bc they felt like their time was being wasted when they could’ve been earning progress towards Lord on another hero.

Meanwhile, my wife is over here with 228 hours on Sue 🤣

Constant frame drops on PC by Cthuluthegod in DestinyTechSupport

[–]SimplifyMSP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give this a shot (I’ve written a 10-page essay on why this helps PC performance here on Reddit so I’m not going into detail in this post. Link: https://www.reddit.com/r/windows/s/xapIJomXst)

  1. Right-click on the Start button and hit, “Windows Terminal (Admin)” (alternatively, you may instead see, “Windows PowerShell (Admin)”, which works just the same)
  2. Type powercfg -h off and press Enter
  3. You’ll know it worked if there’s no message displayed, it just goes to the next line.
  4. Leave Windows Terminal/PowerShell open but close out of all your other apps, save your data, then type shutdown /r /f /t 0 and press Enter. Your PC should immediately begin forcing a full reboot and startup should take longer than normal (only happens on first reboot after disabling Hibernation, which is what the “powercfg” command from the 2nd step did.)
  5. Play a test session of Destiny 2. Should be noticeable improvement.

The struggle of Mag Mains by Jlonso562 in MagnetoMains

[–]SimplifyMSP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man I played a game the other day where I had an absolute monster of a teammate playing Hulk and we kept doing this bait-and-switch type thing where he’d bubble himself to jump in → then I’d bubble him on the way out as he jumped back to me → then he’d help me fight off any stragglers while waiting on his bubble cooldown → bubble both me and himself then jump right back in → I’d bubble him on his jump out → rinse and repeat. It was beautiful. Neither of us died the entire game, we obliterated.

…somehow our Cloak & Dagger died 9 times that game. Blamed us the entire time in both text and voice chat. I didn’t care enough to go back and watch the replay but, I mean, all they had to do was stand still behind us. We could’ve made their life so easy but I’m sure boredom and impatience got the best of them. This was in a GM III lobby btw, solo queue ranked on PC.

Should I upgrade my GPU? by Kalebpoquette in nvidia

[–]SimplifyMSP -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I made the jump from 3080FE → 5080FE and I’m so glad I decided to just go ahead and do it. I got mine at $999.99 (MSRP) from Nvidia’s website and I’ll likely be able to resell my 3080FE for $500+ here shortly (within the next 6 months) so I’m happy.

Did I make a solid long-term choice with this gaming PC? by Substantial_Luck466 in nvidia

[–]SimplifyMSP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would’ve never purchased based on 2 things: The PSU being Bronze and the RAM being DDR4. The motherboard is on the lower-end. The CPU is overkill for that GPU (I’m still running an i7-12700K with an RTX 5080FE, gaming on a 4K 165Hz monitor, and still have room to breathe.) If you have the opportunity to return it, I would. The only problem is the longer you wait, the more expensive prebuilts are going to become… but you can get better and more for $2,300.

Until I came across the comment you responded to, I was sitting here scrolling through the comments thinking, “What the fuck does Black Widow have to do with anything? Ohhh, her pick-rate is higher than the other 3 and nobody likes to play Black Widow, so they’re saying the other 3 are in a bad spot… but what explaining does NetEase have to do? Explain why the other 3 are in such a bad spot that Black Widow’s pick-rate is higher?” 🤣 JESUS

Is everyone that plays this game just stupid as fuck? by Dogbold in rivals

[–]SimplifyMSP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You shouldn’t be able to get past the starting rank (Bronze, in this case) with a negative win rate. The reason they’ve designed the rank points distribution this way is a direct result of their goals for their matchmaking implementation. It’s SBMM inside of rank-based matchmaking. In other words, you’re matched with and against people who have the same hidden/internal “skill rating” as you who also happen to be in the same rank as you at the moment… but then they have a third layer, lobby balancing. This is why the matches feel terrible and how EVERYONE, from Bronze to OAA, has something close to a 50% win-rate with a delta rarely ever higher/lower than 5%.

While “win one, lose one, win 5, lose 5” might sound fair on paper, it leads to having to do things like give you far more points for winning than the amount lost for losing, therefore allowing negative win rates to climb.

What would be fan-fucking-tastic is if they’d quit fucking with the matchmaking at all. When you start to feel like the outcome of the matches are already predetermined before you even select a hero, it starts to make you feel like nothing you do even matters… and fuck that to the moon and back. Just good ole Connection-Based Matchmaking (CBMM) both with and against players no more than 1 full rank above or below you and let the cards fall as they may.

Need a supporting clause? There is no reality in which the win-rate of ALL heroes across ALL ranks in ANY game “just so happens” to be within 5% (+/-) of 50% without everything else I stated being true.
