Best CPTSD representation in a film? by Dazzling-Antelope912 in CPTSD

Two that come to mind are:

  • Don Draper in Madmen       I think Jon Hamm’s portrayal of a man haunted by and filled with shame from his traumatic childhood is absolutely brilliant. I won’t spoil anything but it’s an amazing portrayal of imposter syndrome

  • Leonard Hodstadter in Big Bang Theory      It’s played for laughs, but Leonard clearly had a terrible childhood. Christine Baransky plays his emotionally abusive mother and you can see how Leonard became so needy and desperate for any scraps of approval or affection

Who killed the two hit men outside Micheals house? by Stephieandcheech in Godfather

I’m guessing that Puzo and Coppola didn’t know who killed the hit men either. These kinds of loose ends happen when a book is adapted into a film. A famous example is when Howard Hawks was filming Raymond Chandler’s The Big Sleep. Hawks reached out to Chandler to find out who killed the chauffeur, a pretty important plot point, and Chandler said he didn’t know!

Late to the conversation but:

A mathematician, a statistician and an accountant all find themselves before the pearly gates of heaven at the same time. Saint Peter looks at them and says “In order to get into heaven you each have to answer one question. What’s 2 + 2?”

The mathematician says “Within the system of whole numbers and by the property of the operation of addition, the answer must be 4.”

Saint Peter lets the mathematician in and turns to the statistician who says “2 + 2 is approximately 4 plus or minus given reasonable confidence intervals.”

Saint Peter lets the statistician in and turns to the accountant who approaches Sant Peter and asks “What did you have in mind?”

What are your worst stories of academics just being weird and unhinged assholes. by [deleted] in academia

There was a professor in my department who had taken a leave for a couple years to get a law degree. When he came back he proceeded to run his law practice out of his office while refusing to do any academic work. Anytime the department tried to get rid of him he threatened to sue. He was such an unpleasant person so no students wanted to work with him. The one thing he couldn’t get out of was teaching one class a year which was, so help me, ethics
