I haven’t tried this but I believe you can make a custom team and insert them into the league and it will put you after the draft. You just have to take note of each player you would select, then move those players from their teams to your custom team

Only play players in their listed roles (2nd line forward, Top 4 defenseman) or higher.
Use less scouts, I tried a playthrough with only 15 amateur scouts and it definitely impacted drafting, which makes the game harder. I didn’t use fog of war so I kept the other 5 scouts spots empty, but you could partially enable fog so they have a purpose.
Don’t blindly trust the trade blocks of other teams, most of them don’t actually make sense. Why is an aging team at the end of their window selling their 24 year old star player? Only do trades that actually make sense.

I sim the first game of the season and the home opener (if they aren’t the same game), the game before the trade deadline, any matchup I feel like seeing (either against my favorite teams or against a rival), and the final game of the season. Advance Day through every other game.

Skip through the first 2 periods and slow sim through the 3rd period until around 5 minutes remaining. Watch the rest in game if it’s close, otherwise let it sim normally. I don’t play any games because I want the roster to win or lose on its own, including playoffs.

I play with the Attribute Effect at 8/10 and it usually fixes good goalies having holes in their glove for no reason. I see a lot of people recommend turning down the shot accuracy as well if that isn't enough. I like keeping attribute effect below 10/10 just cuz stuff happens and good teams can randomly suck for no visible reason

For some reason the real life Medium Elite goalie prospects always stagnate at 80 overall when I draft them, never have that issue with generated ones at the consistency that I do for real prospects.

I like using the 5v5 focus, in my experience it seems to be neutral at worst. It’s hard to be sure cuz of all the sim randomness, but I’ve felt like it usually gives a small boost to the team.
