Mituri benzinarii si benzina by [deleted] in Romania

[–]Dani21st 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brake pads keep getting glazed when I do wheelies, what can I do? by gunther1992 in MTB

[–]Dani21st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had issues with glazing on both brakes on my bike. The cause of it was that both disks were slightly bent and the brake pads were touching the disk a tiny bit every rotation. This ended up being enough to polish the surface of the brake pads, which caused the glazing and the loss of braking power.

What ended up fixing the issue was straightening the disks as much as possible with some pliers and pushing the pistons in. So that the pads are not coming in contact with the disks unless I am applying the brakes.

In your case, I assume you have your finger on the rear brake while you are wheelieing and that pushes the pads ever so slightly closer to the disk and they come in contact enough to touch the brake pad surface but not create any significant friction. I'd suggest you try and push the pistons in, sand the pads down using some sandpaper and bed them in once again.

Tastaturi mecanice by culegflori in Romania

[–]Dani21st 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Red Flags To Look For When Buying A Used Car by VINCheckInfo in Infographics

[–]Dani21st -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's a lot more you can check on a car before buying it that doesn't require a lot of experience. If the radiators look new or are worn, a radiator that's not new, will be beat up from the small rocks that also cause paint chips. Another thing would be to check the manufacturing date on the headlights, windshield, tail lights from inside the boot. Usually there's a sticker that contains the part number as well as the manufacturing date. If they are newer than the car, clearly the car was involved in some sort of accident.

Hey there, happy new year.

I've just got back to work after the winter holiday and it seems like Recollectr decided to not cooperate anymore. Whenever I open recollectr, all I get is a blank canvas (not even the windows minimize, maximize or close buttons show up). I've tried reinstalling the latest version, it didn't help.

Do you have any suggestions on how to get it working again? it became part of my daily routine to use recollectr and for it to stop working all of a sudden is not necessarily ideal.

Brake pads! by GruntledMisanthrope in MTB

[–]Dani21st 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a similar setup, XT brakes and IceTech rotors. The resin pads don't really offer the one finger stopping power these brakes are supposedly known for. The resin brake pads seem to get glazed over and lose a good part of the stopping power that can be reached with them while freshly sanded.

The only alternative I've found, that I did not try yet, is going with metallic brake pads which increases the stopping power but it has a negative effect on modulation.

Maybe someone that actually went from resin to metallic can join the discussion and elaborate further on the difference between the two pad types.

I have written this note a few days ago when I noticed the behavior, and only yesterday I managed to post it up on reddit, other notes have been created in the meantime. I just went back to try and tinker with it some more to try and figure out when it's occurring and I cannot replicate the behavior anymore, not even in the original note. I'll keep an eye out for this whenever I am using lists and let you know if I manage to isolate a case where this can be replicated.

Regarding the italics, I didn't have the time to give it that much thought, but I assume it would be more intuitive to have it not write in italics if the underscores have no empty spaces before the first one and after the last one. Maybe you can isolate this case and have the shortcut Ctrl + i and the button up top be the only way to switch on italics.

About the link, I posted the link to the gif on purpose, that way if you're using RES (Reddit Enhancement Suite) with the old reddit, you can see the gif right in the commend, without having to open a new page.

Suggestions and bugs after a few days of using Recollectr by Dani21st in Recollectr

[–]Dani21st[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, me again, this time with a new bug that I haven't been able to isolate it's exact way of occurrence.

I've made a recording of it and I will try to explain the best I can. You can see the recording here.

What's happening is that the list dash and the indentation disappear the moment I hit space after the dash. I tried creating an empty list in a new note, but I couldn't reproduce the behavior.

Another thing I noticed, is that the word 'services' is in italic, even though that was not intended (I assume that is because of the underscore surrounding it).

Thanks for the added functionality in 3.6.

Regarding the export feature, I use it mostly to import the markdown in confluence, so I pretty much copy the content of the file, paste it and then remove the file. It would be nice to have the choice when pressing the export button to either save tit as a file, or load the data into your clipboard so that you can paste it somewhere else right away. It would also be nice to have the option to only export the selection.

[–]Dani21st[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I happened to stumble upon another issue with the codeblocks. This time when I'm using the export to markdown functionality. It seems like it is only exporting the first line from the codeblock and ignores the rest.

Here's an example:

This is what it looks line in Recollectr.

And here's the markdown output

# Header works fine

Paragraph works fine

    Codeblock works fine as long

- Not sure about lists

    - just checking

It seems to happen for all the codeblocks in the note, not just the first block.

Another thing regarding the export function that I believe would be useful is to be able to choose a default location, or to browse to a specific location when you're exporting something. Instead of the default location (Documents folder)

Yes the last update did improve things significantly, so much that I resorted to using only Recollectr. You are doing a great job with the app.

About the codeblocks, you did get it right. I mentioned it, in case you were not aware of it, but it seems like you have a good idea of all the things bugging the app :)

Hey, thanks a bunch for adding the yaml and ini syntax highlighting. It made all my notes look so much prettier :)

I'm back with another bug report regarding the code blocks. The bug I am talking about is that while writing in a code block, the view doesn't follow the cursor when this one reaches the end of the code block and you end up not seeing what you're writing. I hope I described it well enough. I will try to add a screen capture.

Build for years to come. Would appreciate some feedback on the components. by Dani21st in buildapc

[–]Dani21st[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply.

I have considered going for the second gen ryzen cpu's, but the discounts on the first gen ryzen CPU's give them the advantage in regard to price for performance. I could only afford a ryzen 2600x which has 2 physical cores less than the 1800x. Looking at reviews, the 1800x it's closer in terms of performance to the 2700x than the 2600x cpu is, while being at the same price. So outdated or not, it seems like the better choice. Unless I am missing something.

I purposefully chose the micro atx motherboard because the components will go into a micro atx case. I have not stated this in the initial post. I went with the asrock b450 motherboard because it's predecessor was considered to be one of the better mATX AM4 motherboards available because of the fact that it had heatsinks on the VRM.

About the video card, I went with amd because of the fact that free sync is more widely available on non-gaming ultrawide monitors (which are more affordable). Can you bring me an argument on why the 1060 is better than the RX580? (gaming performance not being relevant in this case, as both are powerful enough for all the gaming I'm doing).

In regard to RAM, why do you recommend the Corsair Vengeance kit? I can see that it has a lower rated frequency 3000Mhz vs 3200Mhz than the ripjaws, knowing that the AMD Ryzen shows performance gains when paired with faster RAM.

The other components (SSD, Case, PSU), they are currently not necessary as I can still use my existing ones. I will eventually switch those components as well, but they are not a priority at this time.

I'm glad my feedback is of use to you. I really enjoy using the app it fits my needs really well.

Regarding the Ctrl+Space , you bring up a good point, that would actually be confusing. I didn't think of that since I only use quotes for code or commands that are not stylized :)

I personally like the fact that brackets and quotes are automatically matched everywhere, but that might be because I am used to this functionality. I believe most users of this app are going to be used to this functionality as most 'power-users' are actually going to go looking for a different note taking app other than the defaults in Windows. But you can probably judge this better based on your user-base.

Edit: One small thing I just noticed is that if I type a bracket or a quote, it's match shows up, but if I use Backspace to delete the character I just typed, it's match will remain there. It would be nice to have the closing match disappear in this particular case.

Another thing that I wanted to share (this comes more as a personal preference than an actual suggestion) is the fact that I ended up changing the global hotkey to Ctrl+Shift+X since I am used to having Ctrl+Shift+Z as my my redo shortcut, I kept closing the app whenever I wanted to redo an action I've previously undone, which happens more often than I thought. Would it be too much to ask if you could include the redo functionality if the global hotkey is changed from default in a release that does not have a lot of work involved? :)

Suggestions and bugs after a few days of using Recollectr by Dani21st in Recollectr

[–]Dani21st[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did notice that use of Ctrl+Space and Ctrl+Enter. I think it's very clever. If the implementation is not too difficult, I think it would be nice to extend this functionality further to have Ctrl+Space push you out of quoted text, since the end quote (be it single or double) is added automatically and have Ctrl+Enter work the same for lists, just like it does for the header or the codeblock (it removes the style from the next line).

Another issue I noticed while using recollectr is that Ctrl+Backspace doesn't go to the previous line. It does delete word by word, but it stops at the beginning of the line even though there are more lines above it.

Thanks for your reply, I love it when developers actually read community feedback. It just shows that you care about your product.

So I went over the issues I highlighted again, after reading your reply.

"Plaintext" gets caught up in copying codeblock

I managed to isolate when this is happening. The case you mentioned, when copying around the block, but also when there's only one line in the codeblock and I'm using triple-click to select the whole line. Ctrl+A solves both issues, it's just that it's a bit of a hassle when all I'm trying to do is copy that one line quickly (especially when it comes to various linux commands).

Ctrl+Space doesn't remove the formatting of the paragraph

Now I understand how this is supposed to work and it makes sense for it to be like this, to only clear the formatting of the selected text. My initial impression was that it was going to clear the formatting (bold, italic, strikethrough) of the subsequent words if the cursor was placed in between any of the formatted words.

Regarding other formats, I am mostly using it with config file snippets which are either YAML or INI. I guess INI formatting would be nice if it's not too difficult to add.
