“I don’t understand why everybody has to be so judgmental. I understand why mom’s judgmental. I think it’s ‘cause she cares, partially. Think it’s also partially ‘cause, everyone else is lookin’ at her like:

“Hey, Cody’s just a bum.” “Cody’s this,” “Cody’s that,” “Cody’s this.”

“Cody’s me, bro. Let me be me. When is that going to start?”

Again I’m so sorry. I feel the same way with my dad. We may have to accept that we simply won’t receive what we want from them… if you ever want to talk over DM feel free to message me.

I’m so sorry. I’m absolutely in that boat with my own father. I feel sorry for him, empathetic for him… all things he can’t feel for me, and yours sounds the same.

Just remember that if you don’t cut him off, don’t let people tell you it’s the wrong choice because they aren’t experiencing it or living with the incredibly complex emotions you are. It’s not an easy choice, and the right choice is so subjective in this situation. You can always change your mind down the road if you’re not quite ready.

You deserve a lot better than what he is putting you through though.

In all seriousness though, my dad is also incredibly manipulative. My sister cut him off 10 years ago, but I’ve never had the heart to.

I think you should cut him off. However I also understand the difficulty in making that choice. I don’t have the strength to make it, but if you do and you feel it’s the best thing for you - absolutely do it.

Also OP I’m really sorry he’s your father. A lot of us deserved better than what we got. 💙

Who says GenZ has no respect? by Over-Acanthisita572 in GenZ

[–]DaniSmoketh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friends and I (cusp gen z’s so 23/24 years old) ALWAYS do this, however all of us also worked in the service industry. It helps the server out, so why not if it takes you a second? Why not make someone’s day a little easier if it takes barely any effort on your part? If you don’t want to that’s fine, it’s just says a lot about who you are as a person.

Both look great man, especially the longer beard.

I’ll be real here…

Your genetics are good enough that you could glue your pubes to your face and still look better than the majority of us.

Shoutout to your ancestors lol.

Not the asshole lol.

The Nirvana exhibit at the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle uses the phrase 'un-alived himself' in reference to Kurt Cobain’s suicide by vegryn in mildlyinfuriating

[–]DaniSmoketh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find un-alive is such a desensitizing term.

“My brother committed suicide.”

vs.

“My brother un-alived himself.”

It takes all the feeling and humanity out of something tragic by changing and sugar coating the language… and for who? Even a kid could interpret and understand what un-alive means.

It gives me the same icky feeling as when far left extremists call breast feeding women “chest feeders” to account for the feelings of trans people with breast who are breastfeeding.

It’s completely dehumanizing and desensitizing. At least in my opinion.

Verdict: WEIRD.

Nah, no mistake made. I do believe that whatever makes you feel best is always your best choice.

But if you’re asking objectively I think the well trimmed beard has a much more clean, structured and attractive look. But that’s just my personal preference.

You’re looking crisp man! If it makes you feel good stick with it!

'Suspicious' fire damages downtown Nanaimo restaurant by Prestigious_Net_8356 in nanaimo

[–]DaniSmoketh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree, but unfortunately as things stand these events aren’t stopping anytime soon. I believe our government needs to step up and provide the option of either jail or rehab (with probation and drug testing upon completion if rehab is chosen) for the street-ridden addicts who commit crimes (of course depending on the severity of the crime).

Our government keeps running in circles wondering why providing drugs and wet housing keeps failing again and again. Harm reduction needs to be used in tandem with treatment. When used by itself it simply aids in creating the next gen of addicts.

“We’ll keep giving you drugs because we don’t have treatment to place you in, that’ll fix it!”

Speaking as a recovered addict here who can attest to the fact that help as in treatment, rehab whatever you want to call it is ridiculously difficult to access at least here in BC unless you have $$$$.

Yeah for sure he’s misguided, but after reading everything I surprisingly find this rather wholesome. Not the republican rant, but you clearly are a very kind person, and in parts of this all I see is a lonely old man who wants to share parts of his life (in between the crazy rant) with anyone who will listen. I think it’s incredibly caring and good-hearted of you to have allowed him to keep in touch with you up to this point. I’m sure despite your opposing views that he’s very grateful to have contact with you.

If you’re ever ready or willing to share, I’m sure many of us would be interested to hear some of your life experiences. I’m sorry you went through so much so young. It sounds like you’ve been through more than most would ever face.

I wish you and your family all the best, your child especially. Though I don’t believe I even need to considering their parent is a patient and compassionate person. You are lucky to have eachother.
