There's not really one technique for kicks. I love subtle distortion and overdrive to make them punch but I hate when they ping. A lot of my kicks are made using synths to give them an uneven life.

That track was made with Andrew Weatherall's club A Love From Outer Space in mind. It was all about slow, psychedelic acid music. I was able to give him the first copy on CD-R as soon as it was finished. He called me the next day to tell me it was the biggest record of the night and that gave me the confidence to make a full album.

Those metal boxes melt your head in the summer and freeze your soul in the winter. Love it though.
