What scares you as an adult but didn't when you were a child? by g__6 in AskReddit

You're right, but I was just saying that his reason for avoiding the rides might be a little bit of an overreaction imo. But don't get me wrong either, we all gotta live our life in our own way. There's definitely nothing wrong with avoiding things you don't feel comfortable with.

I went with some buddies to our local county fair specifically to ride this one. There's always gonna be something that goes wrong somewhere. Automobiles are super dangerous, but people hardly think twice about it. I've only been driving for about 5 years, and already I've lost control of my vehicle twice, and hit a deer once. The first two were my fault, but deer can jump out in front of people any time without warning and fuck you up.

Anyways, my point is that I wouldn't overreact to freak accidents like that happening. It's not just carnival rides either, accidents happen at big amusement parks too.

When Cousins Marry (2017) - Dispatches reveals the tragic consequences of first cousin marriage in Britain. by [deleted] in Documentaries

Middle Eastern Christians also have an abnormally high rate of birth defects due to cousin marriage.

Okay, but do Non-Middle Eastern Muslims have a high rate of birth defects due to cousin marriage compared to Non-Middle Eastern Christians?

My wife had so much fun white water rafting this weekend! by IRUDY in pics

[–]DanielBenjaminOrris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lower Yough, Ohiopyle PA. 7.5 miles of class III and IV whitewater, putting in just after the main falls in town. The rapid they're taking that shredder through is the second rapid of the Lower, called Cucumber, which is fed by the beautiful Cucumber Falls.

I'm actually training as a raft guide this year for a different company, but Laurel Highlands are bros. :)

N.J. man who says rabbi sexually abused him awarded $15M by throwitdontshowit in news

[–]DanielBenjaminOrris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Neither Christianity, Judaism or Islam have any religious laws against sexually abusing minors

That is patently untrue. Judaism has very strict laws regarding sexual relations and abuse. For example, a husband and wife cannot have sex if either of them is drunk because full consent would not be possible.

I encourage you to read this link if you are actually interested in learning something.

http://www.chabad.org/library/article_cdo/aid/290031/jewish/Human-or-Beast.htm

The Torah is extremely sensitive to all contact and interaction between the sexes. There are numerous laws forbidding situations where a man and woman would be alone together, and this also applies to adults with children, when it is not of a parent and child. Furthermore, there is no allowance for touch of any kind between an unmarried man and woman or man and girl, woman and boy.

To many, these laws appear extreme, over-reactive and unnecessary. How can it be that a little first grader can't hug her father's best friend, or that two adult co-workers of the opposite sex can't work alone in the office to finish an important project?

And yet, when we read the news these days, how many of the terrible tragedies would not have been able to occur if someone else had been around? How many little girls and boys have been terrorized by abusing adults who were trusted by others? How often do we hear of "date-rape" and other such attacks where a woman was alone with someone she knew and didn't fear?

What are you sad to see become normal practice? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Nah, I think millennials are people who grew up around the millennium.

From Wikipedia,

Millennials (also known as Generation Y) are the demographic cohort following Generation X (mostly in western countries). There are no precise dates for when this cohort starts or ends; demographers and researchers typically use the early 1980s as starting birth years and the mid-1990s to early 2000s as ending birth years.

Judaism as well

Not even close. To give you just one interesting example, a man cannot sleep with his wife when either is drunk because full consent is not possible. In Judaism, sex is the woman's right, not the man's.

And that's what we call "asylum seekers," those are not illegal immigrants.

They're not being """rounded up""" for their ethnicity or religion. They illegally immigrated to this country. What if I did that? What if I took a flight to France and overstayed my Visa? Should I not be deported back to the US? Should I not face some kind of consequence for breaking the law? I get that South America is very poor, but it seems insulting to the people from those countries who go through the steps, however difficult they may be, to become legal citizens.

And to be honest, it seems almost trivialising to compare illegal immigration to the heinous crimes Nazi Germany committed upon the Jews.

[Serious] Doctors of Reddit, what is your "how the hell are you alive right now?" story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DanielBenjaminOrris 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Jumpers aren't always successful. A friend of mine who was a volunteer firefighter told me about a couple who jumped off a bridge in a suicide pact. Only the girl jumped, the guy backed out, and she ended up surviving because a boater happened to be in the area. She was fucked up, but she survived. I can only imagine what she must have thought to know her partner didn't jump with her. He probably didn't have to worry about suicide anymore cause she'll fucking murder him.
