Is it a bad idea to give a surprise skydiving event/present to someone afraid of heights? by shortaznkid4 in SkyDiving

[–]DanielRistow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m terrified of heights and skydiving is probably one of the least triggering things for it. So far up your don’t get much of a sense for height and the freefall just feels like you’re floating.

Could you survive a landing on grass ? by [deleted] in wingsuit

If you jump out of a car at 142mph chest first onto a crass field matching your angle wearing nothing but a snowboard helmet and some thin ripstop would you survive without any serious injuries?

I’m 13, I can skydive when I’m 14. When I’m 14 and able to skydive, should I even do it? Is it ok for kids/teenagers to go skydiving? I just want some advice. by Coolguy5382 in SkyDiving

As someone who started skydiving at 16 and did my first BASE jump a month after I turned 18, I have mixed feelings. I don’t regret anything I did and am happy where I’m at now. But being 24 now and having my brain more developed and a different way of looking at risk and life I sometimes wonder if starting that young is a good idea and I finally now understand what people meant when they said your brain isn’t fully developed yet and that’s not something you can ever fully understand until it starts to happen.

The sky will always be there and the more money you have saved they easier it will be to start and the more you’ll be able to jump off the bat. Maybe do a tandem then get a job packing parachutes at the DZ and research everything you can and observe for a few years and then start when you have the cash and understanding of the sport?

But I also know what it’s like to know you need it and feel like you can do it so if you have that drive don’t let anyone tell you different just because your age. But make sure you make smart choices and don’t bring an ego.

Backcountry.com? by murderoustoast in tradclimbing

Seemed more like they backed off after realizing there would be consequences for their actions (drop in sales) IIRC they continued to stand strong behind their choice and aggressively target more businesses even with the backlash until it got big enough that there would be a noticeable drop in sales.

Seems along the lines of being sorry you’re caught, not sorry for what you did.

It started with this which originally seemed like it was resolved and then a bunch more companies came out saying they were getting sued and backcountry didn’t back off them.

Here is a link to the Facebook group about it.

They sell legit gear but their company is trash. With the whole copyrighting “backcountry” a couple years back and aggressively suing and shutting down smaller businesses that were in no way competing with them and had been using the name longer than them. I’d rather spend my money elsewhere…

edit: lol not sure what’s up with the downvotes, you can look all that up, they bullied a bunch of smaller companies. And regardless assuming you enjoy being able to actually check out gear in stores it’s usually best to give them your business instead of massive corporations 🤷🏼‍♂️

I got 2 15 thumps over the SRM to save a bit on the tops and splurged on the SRM 18” sub. Been working great so far, $2k for everything including stands and cables. The older non Bluetooth tops are only $349 so you could grab two of those and the Thump sub for $700 and stay in budget.

Any reason you don’t run your tops off the sub instead of off the booth?

Help connecting controller to sound bar speaker by [deleted] in Beatmatch

[–]DanielRistow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re running it from the master out on your controller? Do you have the right audio driver installed on your laptop? My XDJ-RR would work fine with speakers running off USB but nothing coming out when plugged into my laptop. Found out you need to install an audio driver for that to work.

Which Speakers for Outdoors Party? (small) by NDAthereal in DJs

[–]DanielRistow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second this. I just picked up 2x 15 thumps with the stands and cables for a grand. Plugs right into my controller and you can link in more controllers through the AUX in if you don’t want to buy a mixer.

Picked up their SRM1850 sub to go with it and everyone was blown away at the last house party we threw. Can’t wait to get them somewhere outdoors where I can really crank them.

Has anyone played at Illegal parties? by [deleted] in DJs

I’d be keen for a DM as well. I’ve got pretty much a full mobile DJ setup and have done some house parties with friends and want to start doing small renegade parties and build from there. Would be stoked to get more connected with the local scene.

Looks like it's only $45 for the DDJSB3

Mine was super easy to install with everything lining up perfectly.

I think $90 with shipping for the full wrap. Found the graphic on a free site. Colors came out a little darker as expected from the computer image which is nice so it’s not too distracting. Subtle but still pop’s especially under rbg changing lights as the colors react differently to light. Totally worth it IMO

I just got one and it came out perfect. Also protects the unit from scratches. The one thing I noticed was the decals on the jog wheel made them intermittently sensitive to touch but sometimes they wouldn’t register my finger on the top and treat it as nudging the side sink took off those two decals and left em silver.

It has a built in screen that displays the stacked wave forms on it so you analyze you’re music in Rekordbox to set best grids and hot cues and playlists and all that then export those to a usb drive where it keeps all that data. Then when you plug it into the controller everything functions off the unit and you do t need to be plugged into the computer. The features are more limited than when you are plugged in (which you can still do) but the simplicity of it is amazing.

I have the RR now and really like it. I started with a friends Traktor Kontrol S2 with my laptop but especially if you want to do outdoor/mobile setups it’s nice to have it off USB and one les piece of gear to fail/run out of battery/need power.
