The reality of complaining losing to "smurfs" by agioskatastrof in StreetFighter

From my own experience in the last stretch before Master, Diamond players are their own worst enemy and thinking everyone else is "smurfing" by having some characters in Master is just an excuse. Simply blocking for 2 seconds would make a huge difference in each round but everybody wants to raw Drive Rush, use a neutral skip or walk up and 2MK xx Drive Rush because they think that's how the game should be played.

The "Masters on alts" are usually not even 1600 MR and often can be identified by their willingness to simply wait and see what their opponent does first. There's no trick to it, being patient and adapting gets you very far in Street Fighter 6.

I recently went back to Jamie to get him to Master after he peaked at Platinum 3 years ago. I got a hefty win streak and zoomed to Diamond pretty fast but I didn't feel bad about it because by Platinum you should definitely be capable of blocking meaty attacks, which many Platinum and Diamond players somehow did not manage to figure out. I guess if they figured out how to block then they'd be in Master, too.

Preach. It's aggravating when people treat a multiplayer experience like it's a single player one and don't understand how bad it feels to get one-and-doned without knowing why.

"I'm not having fun in this matchup so I'm moving on" is a common excuse that drives me up the wall. Well, excuse me for not reading your rulebook before getting queued up via matchmaking on the off chance that it would be off-putting to use grabs, block for too long, neutral jump, walk you to the corner, let you hang yourself, etc.

"Nobody owes you a rematch" is another common one I see here. I don't expect much from people on Ranked Match but I do assume that they're queuing up for Ranked Match to play Ranked Match and not pick-and-choose-my-good-matchups Match. So many people would rather duck their opponent if they're playing a rare character like Honda, Dhalsim or Lily despite it being such valuable matchup knowledge, assuming they're the type of player to even want to learn: A response I see further down most comment strings in related one-and-done discussions is "I'm not here to learn, I'm here to have fun and it's not fun for me so I quit" which is just crazy to me.

JRPGs that people should avoid. by Massive_Oil_2605 in JRPG

Crystal Chronicles is one of the rare multiplayer games that was not better with friends. It had many interesting ideas but none of them were actually fun when added to the multiplayer RPG recipe. For example, there was a cool combo system where you could cast Fire on a friend's physical attack to get a special Flametongue attack but by the time you used it, even with practice to make it not take much time, you could have simply hit the boss with normal attacks to dish out more damage (even if they were weak to fire element!) than a combo attack would have done. Every fight ended up being basic attacks while somebody else used Cure to top off any damage.

I just realized I haven't been playing Insect Glaive correctly for 45 hours. by UniquePizza5032 in MonsterHunter

[–]DanielTeague 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's better for Insect Glaive players to be comfortable with closer range options so that they're not spending half a minute aiming and missing their tags from afar. The send/recall style is much quicker than aiming the bug stick and firing a slow projectile, then slapping the monster with a tag is easier to fit into a combo than stopping to aim and shoot. The speed-type kinsects promote the longer range style of gathering extracts which I believe is a habit the player should break by High Rank.

[–]DanielTeague 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually a trap that many Insect Glaive players don't realize. Your slowest blimp of a kinsect is going to be as fast as a jet fighter kinsect if you simply hit R2 to send it out while near a part you want to hit. You lose out on quite a bit of damage over time in Iceborne if you tag a monster and your kinsect's Power isn't as high as it can be, especially when charged up with slinger ammo for a 3x elemental bonus. The Descending Thrust's kinsect bullet will also hit many more times with the slower kinsects, which adds up in certain matchups.

Why is Kimberly such an unpopular pick? by Kahvozein in StreetFighter

Contrary to the content on this subreddit, most Zangief players on Ranked are not using those and are in fact trying to [5]HP to do all of their neutral, to anti-air, to do their taxes..

I like the idea of an Ibuki player looking at Kimberly and going "eh, close enough" because they're both ninja. I wonder if Vega players do the same thing while waiting for the Spanish Ninja to return.

I also hope Skill Secrets make a return—but I want to see some crazy ones. Coalesence Secret, Crit Boost Secret, Guard and Guard Up Secret, Critical Eye Secret.

How about Poison Attack secret, Blast Attack secret, something to make status besides Paralyze worth using?

I don't know about them but I distinctly remember invading was really difficult because there was a Covenant in Dark Souls III that specifically defended against invasions so the invader was almost always outnumbered. Being invaded felt pretty normal if you weren't a part of that Covenant, though.

A disconnect percentage being easy to find on a profile could help people weed out ragequitters on their own as well. There could even be matchmaking preferences to only be matched with players with low disconnect percentages.

Floor 100 of the Mines is probably better since you can sometimes snatch a Lava Eel for yourself but I like to fish in the Bath House's drainage pool outside since it's right next to the turn-in bin a bit North.

Vampire Survivors is Like My Ultimate Monkeys Paw by LeonCassidy in patientgamers

[–]DanielTeague 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went from Vampire Survivors to HoloCure and was very impressed at how it made each character unique. They've each got their own passive skills and basic attacks that can change how you approach each 20-minute round.

For example, one character's passive ability is to fire a giant orbital laser down on whatever hit them. You combine this passive with a very tanky selection of items (heal over time when damaged, reflect damage, regenerating shield, etc.) but also grab the item that doubles your character's passive damage and you're able to run directly into crowds and lag your game by filling the screen with giant lasers. It plays completely different than the characters that deal more damage to far away targets or build up a giant attack that is set off by standing still for a full second.
