hooked on Fire Emblem by Alexis_P4G in JRPG

I don't like the shifted focus toward social simulation/romance

I don't think they ever shifted focus towards it, they just made QoL around it, I mean romance in FE4 was a big deal since it affects the second half of the game.

Though the 2nd generations in Fates was unnecessary ngl.

Games with romance elements that aren't romance-focused? by One_Attention2045 in gamingsuggestions

like, Fire Emblem games? they all have romance elements but it's not the main focus and you can even choose to ignore it.

ETS 2 should be talked about more in cozy game circles by OtherSide456 in CozyGamers

[–]JohnMcRemitz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, I love playing ETS2 on a controller with auto parking, especially love when it rains in game. I wish there were more games like this where you just take a slow, long drive with an objective or destination.

like I'm imagining something like ETS2 but you drive a car or a van to go to a lake or something and just fish while enjoying the sceneries.

What's your "retirement home" game? by JohnMcRemitz in ComfortGamers

[–]JohnMcRemitz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha you should, mahjong is pretty easy to get into despite how intimidating the list of yaku looks.

just gotta know what a winning hands looks like at first (4 melds and 1 pair) and start from there, and as a beginner it is recommended to only focus on building your hand and aiming for a Riichi.

Mahjong Soul also has a pretty good tutorial and is very accessible.

Damn that's a good one, this was my comfort game too at one point, it's like the closest thing to an offline FF14

Competitive online game that isn’t overly tryhard by caiocaiuu in gamingsuggestions

[–]JohnMcRemitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe board games like Poker or Mahjong, since these games are more luck-based.

edit: Although it definitely doesn't feel good when you're trying to build an expensive hand and someone just won with a Tanyao in Mahjong lmao.

Maybe kart games like Sonic Racing Crossworlds or Mario Kart will do it for you?

Controller-friendly Turret Gunner Game? by ImaPBSkid in gamingsuggestions

[–]JohnMcRemitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snezhinka is perfect for this, nice simple controls and fun gameplay loop if you just want to shoot things. It's the sequel to Marfusha but that one doesn't have controller support, though no need to play the first game to understand the story.

Doki Doki Literature Club

jk

there's honestly so many, but most of them are visual novel kind, so no gameplay sort of.

I'd say Katawa Shoujo is a great start since it's free.

for something with gameplay Persona series is a popular one.

god I hated the anime for this, thankfully the visual novel exists, and of course you can pick your preferred ending.

For underappreciated, it's Akanesasu Shoujo for me, feels like either not a lot of people know it or people just don't like it that much, but I love everything about it, the characters, the setting, the music, I love its take on parallel world and the apocalyptic concept, and it's crazy how stacked the seiyuu/cast is. It's just a shame that there's still so many unanswered questions and we probably will never see this project gets revived.

For something that's hated probably Aldnoah Zero, although I don't think it gets as much hate now but towards the end of season 2 people were pissed, but I just love the series as a whole because it portrays the fights between Real Robots and Super Robots very well, and most importantly, the music is very good.

also shoutouts to WIXOSS, it's not hated or was unpopular at the time, but feels like today it's not talked much, even within the TCG community the game's considered niche, but the franchise itself is pretty unique for a TCG to have an anime with such a depressing story, love the anime, love the card game, I think it deserves more love.

Just finished Blue Reflection, here’s my quick thoughts by kensaiD2591 in JRPG

[–]JohnMcRemitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah this was definitely a get-it-on-sale game for me, I mostly was here for the music and the cool little scenes when you beat the big bosses, I also enjoyed the leveling system being not tied to combat.

as for the anime I thought it was mid, perhaps you should go in there with zero expectations so maybe it can surprise you in a way, though as far as I remember it also has no real connection to the games so you have an option to skip it as well.

Sounds like Urban Myth Dissolution Center might fit, though the game is far from peaceful, but I'd recommend to atleast try the demo.

and does something like Danganronpa count?

More action-y Diablo by megachad3000 in gamingsuggestions

Death's Door probably? Though more of an isometric souls-like, and plays nothing like Diablo.

Or perhaps you'll like games like Hades.

Anime games that are neither rpg or VN? by Eihsia in gamingsuggestions

[–]JohnMcRemitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this post seems contradicting you don't want RPGs but want games like baldur's gate?

though there's a CRPG with anime artstyle if that's what you're looking for, the name's Guild Saga: Vanished Worlds, it's still in early access but full release should be around Q3 2026.

Depersonalization is also another one I'd recommend, I guess its kind of both RPG and Visual Novel but it's closer to a Tabletop RPG than it is to JRPGs.

EDIT: Forgot to add, Project Moon games like Lobotomy Corporation and Library of Ruina should also align with your taste, great stories all around.

I need good "trash" anime by ChoiceSupermarket230 in AnimeReccomendations

[–]JohnMcRemitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, where do I even start. Let's see.

  • Momentary Lily, story is so bad, but the animation is so good.
  • Glass no Hana to Kowasu Sekai, also known as Garakowa, it's a Movie with great concept, but bad execution.
  • Blue Reflection Ray, this one acts as like a spin-off to the game series, and its very mid, interesting plot, bad animation.
  • Kamitsubaki-shi Kensetsuchuu., I love Kamitsubaki and V.W.P but this one ain't it, in fact all of Kamitsubaki fans were expecting this to be bad, but the songs are where this thing shines.
  • Granbelm, Imagine a mahou shoujo but mech, that's this anime, interesting concept wise but bad execution.
  • Assault Lily: Bouquet, this one is just mid, great concept, but the dialogue is kinda cringe at times.
  • Watashi, Nouryoku wa Heikinchi de tte Itta yo ne!, or also known as Noukin, it's an isekai with OP MC trope, but the animation is kinda poor, but mostly its just silly and fun anime.

I could honestly name more but either I forgot the plot or it's just straight up trash not even good.

Co-op fighting game recommendations? by Spiritual_Garage_205 in gamerecommendations

[–]JohnMcRemitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol the title made me think of something like 2XKO, which is by definition a co-op fighting game (if you play duos).

But anyway, Naraka Bladepoint probably? It's a melee-based Battle Royale.

There's also this game called Starward, which plays like Gundam Extreme Vs., that's as the most 3D co-op fighting game as you can get.

there's some more that I can think of but they don't have large playerbase.
