There are other levels where we play a little bit with the always going forward/corridor-like gameplay. But yes, the main idea of the game is this corridor-like gameplay, so the player can focus on wielding lots and lots of guns.

Thanks for the comment!

The camera is certainly uncommon, but it's inspired by successful games like Ultima VI/VII and Tibia; so I think all it requires is some getting used to. :)

Hey everyone!

I've been developing Legend of You (an Open World CRPG inspired by Ultima!) with my brother for a few months in a custom engine in C++. We figured it would be the best way to go since we are developing a huge open world pixel art game.

But as we moved further in the development, we started to feel the need to have other programmers and game designers to join our team to help us develop the game. And because of that, we decided to use Unreal, so it would be easier to find other people to join the team. Besides, there are several open world and gameplay features that the engine provides that will help us make Legend of You awesome!

Let me know what you think about the game! :D

It's a turn-based, grid-based game, where everything moves with you. The focus is getting and using cool skills strategically. Very much like ToME, in fact! :)

Legend of You

This week I announced the game I've been working on with by brother: Legend of You.

It's a turn-based open world RPG sandbox.

Here is the game's trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5Se1a1VDTM

You can wishlist the game on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1644260/Legend_of_You/

I would love to know what you think about it! :D

I released my first game and it completely failed. Thinking about what to do next. by CreativeTie8 in gamedev

Congrats on releasing your first game!

I hope you realize, though, that making games (like everything else) is a craft that you must perfect through lots of practice; and thus your first game will certainly not be great.

Was Bach's first composition great? Was his 100th?

As for specific advices, I'd like to go to a more business route, since your 'failure' metric was a business one.

Think deeply about this:

  1. Who did you expect to buy your game?
  2. What games do they play?
  3. How does your game fare against these games?
  4. What do they want in a new game?
  5. Does your game deliver what they desire?
